Another name is added to the list, another family, another department and Officer Medlin's friends grieve their loss. The thin blue line is even thinner now but no less strong. To Officer Medlin's wife and children, please know that Darren was a hero and my prayers are with you. Darren now sits at the right hand of God, walking a new beat in heaven. To the officer's of the Grapevine PD, my sympathies are with you as well. We lost two of our officers (Ron Ryan Jr. and Timothy Jones along with K-9 Laser) 10 years ago. Though the pain has lessened, their memories are strong within us. Let the memories of Officer Medlin support and strengthen you in your time of sorrow. Rest in peace Officer Medlin, we'll continue the watch and stand the line, knowing you're watching over us.

“When God made Peace Officers….”
When the lord was creating Peace Officers, he was into his sixth day of overtime when an angel appeared and said, “You’re doing a lot of fiddling around on this one.”
And the Lord said, Have you read the spec on this order? A Peace Officer has to be able to run five miles through alleys in the dark, scale walls, enter homes the health inspector wouldn’t touch, and not wrinkle their uniform.
They have to be able to sit in an undercover car all day on a stakeout, cover a homicide scene that night, canvass the neighborhood for witnesses, and testify in court the next day.
They have to be in top physical condition at all times, running on black coffee and half- eaten meals. And they have to have six pairs of hands.
The angel shook her head slowly and said, “Six pairs of hands….No Way.”
“It’s not the hands that are causing me the problems,” said the Lord, “It’s the three pairs of eyes an officer has to have.”
That’s on the standard model? asked the angel.
The Lord nodded. One pair that sees through a bulge in a pocket before he asks, “May I see what’s in there sir?” (When they already know and wishes they had taken that accounting job.) Another pair here in the side of their head for their partners’ safety. And another pair of eyes here in front that can look reassuringly at a bleeding victim and say, “ You’ll be alright ma’am, when they know it isn’t so.”
“Lord,” said the angel, touching his sleeve,” rest and work tomorrow.”
“I can’t,” said the Lord, “I already have a model that can talk a 250 pound drunk into a patrol car without incident and feed a family of five on civil service paycheck.”
The angel circled the model of the Peace Officer very slowly, “Can it think?” she asked.
“You bet,” said the Lord, “It can tell you elements of a hundred crimes, recite Miranda warnings in it’s sleep; detain, investigate, search, and arrest a gang member on the street in less time than it takes five judges to debate the legality of the stop…and still it keeps it’s sense of humor.
This officer also has phenomenal personal control. They can deal with crime scenes painted in HELL, coax a confession from a child abuser, comfort a murder victim’s family’ and then read in the daily paper how Law Enforcement isn’t sensitive to the rights of criminal suspects.
Finally, the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek of the Peace Officer. “There’s a leak,” she pronounced. “I told you that you were trying to put too much into this model.”
“That’s not a leak,” said the Lord, “It’s a tear.”
“What’s the tear for?” asked the angel.
“It’s for bottled-up emotions, for fallen comrades, for commitment to that funny piece of cloth called the American flag, and for justice.”
“You’re a genius,” said the angel.
The Lord looked sober. “I didn’t put it there,” he said.

Once a again I hear of another officer killed in the line of duty on the radio that one unwanted message little did I suspect it would be a Grapevine Police officer. I will pray for support for both family and friends and for the Department of Officer Darren Medlin.

Another day has passed and sadly another name has been added to the lst thanks to a drunk driver. It hurts me deeply to see that this officer has been taken from our ranks because of the reckless actions of a drunk driver. God bless Officer Medlin and his family.

In loving memory of P.O. Darren Medlin: Oh the tragic consequences of impaired driving. What a huge burden your family, friends and co-workers must shoulder. Thank you for your selfless service and sacrifice. It is a long road to healing that lies ahead, but I know that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will extend His mercy and comfort to all who reach out to Him. There is none greater than He. We don't get to Heaven based on what we do,
but what He did for us!! AMEN! There is now a huge void that cannot be filled. God be with all those who mourn and may His promises lift all those with heavy hearts for many years to come.
I found this poem on another's site and wanted to share it.
We may never understand it,
the risks these brave ones take,
but occasionally we see a bit
of the difference their lives make.
Some do it for the action,
others find it a callin'.
All find the satisfaction,
and few become the fallen.
Being an officer is what he loved,
To him as good as it gets.
Law was what he dreamed of,
He would have no regrets.
And though it saddens all of us
to lose him in this way
He knew how an officer must
Live life to the fullest everyday.
You are in my thoughts. If only I could erase your pain...

I was working the night it happened, I heard the call go out, my heart sank and my prayers were lifted, and then heard the bad news moments later. My heart sank even lower. It was a loss to our community and our brotherhood. You will be missed and remembered always. I will continually pray for your family and the Grapevine PD.

For another hero has made the ultimate sacrifice due to a senseless act. To all those who weep, don’t weep about his death, but celebrate his life and how he lived it. Even though I never met or even heard of Officer Darren Medlin, he’s still a fellow Texan and always a brother in blue.
For his wife and children, as you can see, your father is part of a family that is known nationwide. Even though he has never heard or seen a majority of us who have left comforting words in his reflection, we still endure the pain and hurt you are going through as if he’s blood to us. We can only hope these words can somewhat comfort you during this tragic time.
Officer Medlin, you have put in your time and proven yourself, not only to society, but also to the lord. It’s time for you to rest and protect the streets of heaven. For I will meet you one day, but until then, take care and watch over us.
