Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff David Paul Grant

This all stills seems so unreal. I wanted to Thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for writing reflections for my father. The greatest man of my life. My family is staying strong, but that's because my dad made us that way. I watch my mother check this website everyday, it has been some what of a comfort to all of us since that day in May. My parents had just celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary 2 weeks before. All of our hearts are broken, but we move on and keep him alive by living each day to the fullest for him. I wanted to let my family know that I love them and how proud I am that we all stick together and press on. Everyday that passes, is one more day closer to Dad. This website is a Savior. Dad would be proud of us. Thank you everyone for your words and support.

Dave was the true meanning of a peace officer. He only became a police officer when he had to. He was the kind of policeman that little boys dreamed about becoming, and little girls wanted to marry. His whife Richie was lucky enough to have been that little girl. I am truly sorry for you. to the rest of the family and jennifer especially, how lucky you were to have grown up with a father who was loved by the general population, how lucky you all were to have such a head start at a tuff life by someone who cared for the sense of family value and pride. my prays are with you daily. I drive past the crash site daily and each and evert time I drive by, I pray for your family. Thank You for all of the hard work that dave did for us in this community.

From grade school through adulthood, Dave and I remained friends. Walking different paths through most of life, we only saw each other on occasion. But everytime we would meet, it was like we saw each other yesterday. He was that kind of guy.

Hubba hubba ding ding, Dave.

The whole county has your back.

"Tuolumne, David two log on. David two go ahead, Tuolumne twelve seven three, vehicle zero one two. 10-7 car wash." I miss hearing these words from one of the kindest deputies in the department. The sense of loss is almost unreal. To Dave's family there are not enough platitudes that will ease your pain but maybe in some small way this will help..."There is never a life without sadness, there is never a heart free from pain; If one seeks in this world for true solace, he seeks it forever in vain. So when to your heart comes the sorrow of losing somone dear that you've known 'tis the touch of God's sickle at harvest since he reaps in the fields he has sown. David two, Tuolumne 10-10 and good night." (until we meet again, my friend)

To the family of David Grant,
Debbie, Cathy, Janine, little Julie, we played baseball and kickball in front of your grandmothers house all those years growing up. David was always laughing and the jokester then, as it seems he grew up to be.
May God ease the pain, but never take away the great memories.
My heart goes out to his wife and kids, and to the rest of the family.

Yesturday , 6-3-04 was one of the worst days of my life. I received one of those calls that all Law enforcement familes fear on a daily basis. My friend Dave Grant had been killed in the line of duty.

For the people who knew Dave we could all tell an unusal story of some of his antics,,, From the his love of the out doors, his family and that Harley that he was so proud of.

I am glad that he was a better Law enforcement officer than he was a bareback rider back in our rodeo days.

Those bi arms of his were equally good for wrestling steers, grabbing a bad guy or giving a friend a hug,,,,and I'm sure we could all use one of those right now.

Despite how big and strong Dave was I have never met anyone who spent more time caring and worrying about other peoples problems. His smile and laugh will be missed by my family greatly.

To Richie and the kids, the Deputies of Toulumne and the citizens of Sonora your loss of a great man will not go with out reward.

If there is any possibility of a positive thing out of this tragic accident Dave died doing one of the things he loved and was one of his passions. He has gone to the Police station in the sky to hang out with his mom and dad who he loved greatly.

In closing David my friend I will miss you greatly , i won't say Good Bye, just hope to see ya soon buddy...

I stop by this website often after the death of two dear friends with the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003).
Unfortunately, I had to add the name of another friend. Deputy Jeffrey Hewitt, Buncombe County (NC) Sheriff’s Department, E.O.W. April 4, 2004.

We all grieve over the lives lost in the line of duty. I hope you can find some comfort knowing that there are countless prayers that go out for your family.

These are senseless tragedies that never seem to stop. God Bless the men and women who continue to serve their communities in our great Nation.

...Gone, but never Forgotten....
