I am so very saddened to hear of the death of this fine young officer. North Carolina has lost a number of fine officers in recent years, as have other jurisdictions. And certainly, even one brother or sister officer lost from our family is one too many.
It is particularly heartbreaking to hear of these stories ; a young officer dying the first day on the job. It is not a rarity.
This fine young centurion in blue now patrols a beat in Heaven on St. Michael's platoon. I pray for his colleagues, friends and family. They are not alone in this sad time. We all share in the grief. It is hard to reconcile the concept that he has gone on to a better place, while we are left behind to feel sorrow for his untimely loss.
His death was not in vain, for the which values he lived and died to enforce live on in, generations of officers to come. So does the legacy of officers of years past. God Bless and be safe brothers and sisters.
God Speed young brother, rest easy, we have the watch from here.

My deepest sympathy goes out to Officer Miller's friends, family, and co-workers. I had the pleasure of working with Shane on shift and on the Prison Emergency Response Team. He was a motivated, dedicated, knowledgeable officer and his many talents and experience will be missed by the many county agencies he was a part of.
