Shane, you were a role model to so many people. There is no way to count the numerous lives you touched including mine. It was a joy, pleasure, and an honor to have you as a member of the Tabor City Rescue Squad. I have known you all of my life, you have been a dear friend to me and you will be deeply missed. There will always be a void here that could never be filled by anyone else. We will miss your laughter, your jokes, and that smirky grin. Shane, you died doing what you always wanted to do. For as long as I can remember, that is all you talked about was being a cop. Thank you for your years as a public servant, and most of all as a friend. You may be gone in body, but you will always be with us in spirit, and you will never, ever, ever, be forgotten.

Tabor City Rescue Squad

To the family of Officer Miller.

Our hearts go out to you. Words can't describe the pain you must feel. I am sorry for your loss.

Even after 22 years in law enforcement and many police funerals, I still don't get it. The only way that I have been able to cope was to trust that God is in control.

It must be part of His master plan as painful as it seems. I do believe that we are His servants. Some of us are called home sooner than others, but we all get there.

I didn't know Officer Miller but he must have been one special officer for God to have called him home on his first shift.

I thank you for your sacrifice Officer Miller. I honor you whether you served for 20 years or 1 day.

Trust in God.

Officer Steve Frazier
Rowlett Texas Police Department

When a police officer dies, it is not an agency who loses an officer, it is a nation.
I grieve with you in this tragic loss, but I also think how happy your officer must have been when he went out to that patrol car to fulfill his dream of being a police officer.
Being a police office can be difficult, and Patrolman Miller had to have wanted it very much to switch careers and start over with the TCPD.
Bless him for his dedication and sacrifice, and bless also his family and friends who supported him in his decision. My prayers go out to you all, and also to the officer who was driving that fateful shift. I hope he has recovered, and can come to peace with this tragic event.
"One thing I know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found a way to serve." Albert Schweitzer
Patrolman Miller sought and found his way to serve, both in the Corrections Dept. and in the Tabor City Police Dept.
May the memories you have of happy times with your officer help to ease the pain you're feeling now.
Rest easy, Brother; you will not be forgotten.

To the family and friends of Shane Miller.

I miss Shane very much and his loss has hurt us all.

I remember meeting Shane almost 10 years ago, when he became one of the Explorers, in Tabor City, and I was one of the departments road offcers. I remember Shane riding around with me until all ungodly early morning hours looking for vehicles to stop and issue warning tickets to or calls to answer, that he was actually allowed to go on, and I remember the hours he just hung out at the office trying to see what we were doing and talking about his family. I remember Shane talking about his dream of becoming a police officer and then a Highway Patrolman.

Later, I got the honor of being one of his NC BLET (Academy) instructors. I remember teaching him in several blocks of instruction and how hard I was on him so he'd learn and be one of the best and try hard to know what he was supposed to so he wouldn't get hurt and how proud I was watching him in the program. I remember watching him get his BLET certificate and graduate the program as I promised him that I would be there and how happy I was for him beacuse this was doing what he had always wanted to.

Shane was a good and dear friend who was always cutting up and laughing. He was always there when you needed him and you could count on him for whatever needed to be done.

But mostly, Shane was my friend and I am miss him.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and if there is anything that I can do, please do not hesitate to ask.

My love
Michael Glenn

To officer Miller's Family:

"I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save.

I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

Abraham Lincoln"

Rest in Peace, Brother in Blue.....

Words are so hard to come by at this tragic time. We lost a truly devoted firefighter that will be missed at the station. You were beginning to fulfill your dream of being a police officer. You were truly going to make a difference in the lives of many who respected the law. You would have been the perfect one to make our lives safer. I remember when you helped me to put my air mask on so I could go in a burning house. You were doing what you were always doing....helping someone else. I know that you will protect your fellow firefighters from heaven. We will miss you deeply.
