Reflections for Police Officer Gary Cooper Davis
Nicki our heart breaks for you. The kids will miss the rides that Gary gave in those "fast cars."
We love you!

Gary- although we worked together a short time, some pieces of your being stick in my mind. Your gift of humor, and great ear for different dialects; your humanity in always making sure the prisoners you processed had something to eat and drink before being locked up for the night; and the easy camraderie
you established with your co-workers.
It was a privelege knowing you. Watch over us all!

My fiance, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. Dennis died doing a job he loved, just as I'm sure Gary did. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Gary be the last to die this way.
Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Officer Davis' family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all. No one can truly understand the pain of our loss until they've walked in our shoes. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through this tough time, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you.
Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that Gary is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain Gary was well respected and well loved.
Thank you Officer Davis for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please say "hello" to my fiance Dennis for me.
Peace, Love, Luck, and Happiness!

Please remember the fallen officers we have lost. Remember the men and women who died trying to make this world a safer and better place for us all to live in. Thank you Officer Davis for a job well done. Please continue to watch over us and protect us as only you can. You will forever be at our side and in our hearts.
For those of you who still have loved ones with us please take the time to tell them how much you appreciate and care about them.
IF I KNEW
If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.
If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.
If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.
If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.
If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.
For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.
There will always be another day
to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"
But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.
Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.
So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,
That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.
So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear
Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

In loving memory of P.O. Gary Davis:
Another sad and tragic day for law enforcement. Your death diminshes
us all. Thank you for your selfless service and sacrifice. It is a
long road to healing that lies ahead, but I know that our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ will extend His mercy and comfort to all who reach out to
Him. There is none greater than He. We don't get to Heaven based on
what we do, but what He did for us!! AMEN! There is now a huge void
that cannot be filled. God be with all those who mourn and may His
promises lift all those with heavy hearts for many years to come.

I had the privilege of knowing Gary from the age of 11. We graduated from high school and college together. We were fraternity brothers long before we joined Sigma Pi. I was honored to have been invited to his graduation ceremony from the police academy and to have served as his best man in his wedding (as he was mine). I will never forget the good times that we have shared and cannot express how sad I have been since hearing the horrible news. I find solace only in the fact that I was a witness on many of the occasions which built the character Gary needed to perform his duties as a police officer. I could go on for hours with examples of Gary showing courage beyond any other man I have ever known. I will always remember the conviction with which Gary informed me that his desire was to return to the midnight shift. I regret (selfishly) that Gary was granted his wish but know that he lost his life while working to make our world a safer/better place (something he felt very strongly about).
I will never forget my friend/brother/hero!

I go to lahser high school along with 5 of my siblings and we all knew Officer Davis. He was the most amazing, kind, persistant and devoted police officer I have ever had the pleasure to meet. He loved his job and helped so many of my family's friends with problems, whether the problems were illegal or just emotional. I give my deepest regards to his wife and family. I had the pleasure to be graced with his presence and so did many students and staff at Lahser High School and all over Michigan. Officer Davis you will be missed more than ever.

Gary came into our lives when he and our son, Kevin, teamed up and became room-mates for all their college years. He befriended us and we "adopted" him. We shared many "fun" times with him, including adopting their college cat, "Leaping"! He was a part of Kevin's wedding party, and Kevin was part of his. He was such a warm-hearted young man and earned a special place in our hearts.
He wanted to be a police officer, even then, and used to talk "police talk" with my Dad,(retired USAF, and then police chief, Genessee Township).
He touched our hearts and our lives in a special way, and we hope that Nikki, their families, and other police officers can find comfort in knowing how many other people share their heartbreak. May God hold you all close.

Gary - thank you for the countless memories, lessons and laughs I gained from knowing you over the years. I will always think of you as a brother and I am glad we got the chance to grow up together. I take some comfort in the fact that you gave the ultimate sacrifice doing something that you truly loved. I will keep your memory with me always. Thanks for 'puddin' up with me through the years. I still laugh every time I hear the word 'leaping'. You will be missed. My heart goes out to Nikki and the rest of your family.
