Reflections for Police Officer Donald Ralph Schultz
Don It has been a long time since we worked south side motors together. I think of you and Lisa often. It has almost 4 years since you left but your memory will not fade and we will keep you in our thoughts

Today is four years since the tragic day, you are missed so much by your friends, family, and co-workers. We all have a memory of your smirky smile when you were up to no good and plotting a prank on one of us, just to bring a smile on our faces. We love you and look forward to the day when we are able to see you again. Rest in peace my friend, you will forever be in my heart!

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Uncle Don,
Words cannot express how much you are missed. I was watching the news today and an officer in Cleveland Heights was killed in the line of duty. It brought back so many memories watching his funeral on TV. I know you are happy and with God now, but I hope you know how much your family misses and loves you. I almost forgot to tell you! I plan on finishing my college degree and becoming a cop! If I am half the cop you were, I know I'll be great. You are such an inspiration to me and I hope I make you proud. Lisa is doing as well and she loves you very much. The animals miss you too! I think I will move out there after college so I can hang out with her more often. You have left such an imprit on my life and I thank you for all the great times. I can't imagine a better uncle and role model.

I was flipping through the channels today and saw about one minute of the National Peace Officer's Memorial Service covered. It is an outright shame how little appreciated by the public you and your brethren's sacrifices are. Know that those of us who do appreciate do so more than you can know.
Seth's wedding date is set. We still miss you.

Hi Little Brother. You're in our thoughts a lot, not just that you're not here, but of how much you laughed and that smile you had when you were up to something. I hope you are at peace and remember you are loved. Linda

Hey Donald, I’ve remained silent too long.
Mark & I attended the funeral of a fellow Glendale PD officer yesterday. The day brought back painful memories of the events after your accident. This officer’s brother was given the opportunity to publicly state “I never told him how proud I was of him”.
I guess this is my opportunity.
We are proud of you and we miss the fly overs. You would have been retired by now and flying in Alaska – yet I still look to the sky every time I hear a helicopter, and remember you.

Don,
I was just thinking about you and Lisa the other day and wanted to let you know that. With the holiday season approaching, please bring her some comfort, laughter, and wonderful memories that you have shared together and that she continues to create each day.
You are definitely missed!

Dearest Lisa,
My heart breaks all over again after reading about your husband. I have lost several friends in the law enforcement family, most recently was a few weeks ago. My heart has never fully healed from the pain. I admire your strenght and courage to help other widows. I know that your husband is very proud of you and what you have done to help others. Lisa, when I read what you have written, I can tell that you and your husband had something so special, that the memories you have will keep you smiling, laughing and crying for many, many, many years to come. I pray that the good Lord continues to provide you strenght and guidence with each passing day. I know without him and your courage, you could never even get out of bed. May the love of your husband keep your heart beating and the love of your family keep you safe.
God Bless you Lisa, thank you for sharing your husband with the world.

The family gathered for Sarah's wedding a few days ago. You were there, several of us could feel you and a few tears were shed when we talked about you. Sarah was beautiful and I think you would approve of her husband - army guy but what can you do. All the kids were there and each one was handsome and beautiful. Even little Elizabeth was adorable in her flower girl dress.
I miss you!

Your horse Cartman was ridden very proudly the other day by a head strong three year old. I am sure I felt you and Wayne laughing at us. You would be very proud of Lisa, better yet I am sure you are very proud of her...she is about to create a wonderful program here in AZ for equine therapy for grief counseling for fallen officer's families......what a great thing this is.....and it is all because of you.

We can never move on from the ones we love without bringing them with us. The impact you made in the far too few years we knew you has left an indelible mark which means you are always part of us. I alwasy cherish the time I spent with you and Aunt Lisa and I can't thank you enough for the help and company you provided when I moved to AZ. The world changed so much that day. I wish I hadn't had to leave so soon after you were called home.
I always find pride in your memory.
