On behalf of the Buncombe County Sheriff's Department, Asheville, NC. I was deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Chief Shertzer Sr. I lost my husband, Sgt. Jeff Hewitt, on April 4th, 2004. Jeff was killed in the line of duty while serving committment papers. I am greatful for Chief Shertzer for the protection he provided to his community as well as the other many officers who risk their lives daily. My heart breaks for the family, friends and fellow officers. My prayers are with all of you.
