Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Trooper Kurt David Knapp

Rest in peace, Kurt. I didn't know you well, but I knew you well enough to greatly mourn your passing. You made the ultimate sacrifice and there can be no greater gift to mankind. Thank you for all that you did and rest easy, for we'll continue the watch. My condolences to your wife and children, my thoughts and prayers are with them in their hour of need. There are no words but to say that we love you and you'll never be forgotten.

Last night, as I was driving from San Antonio to my home in Fredericksburg, I passed numerous DPS troopers working the heavy traffic on Interstate 10. I am sure Trooper Knapp was among those I passed. My heartfelt prayers go out to each and every DPS trooper who worked with you, as it does for all officers of DPS as well as other area agencies. I know this area, as law enforcement every where, has a very close brotherhood. I have lost a number of co-workers in the line of duty and know the pain and loss that each of you feel. But, there are no words that can express my sympathy for Trooper Knapp’s wife, children, parents, and family. Their loss can only be known by other survivors. May they feel a little less pain knowing that their loved one gave the ultimate sacrifice as he worked to keep they highway safer for others like me. I hope our pride in all police officers can give them some comfort.

I stop by this website often after the death of two dear friends with the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003).
Unfortunately, I had to add the name of another friend. Deputy Jeffrey Hewitt, Buncombe County (NC) Sheriff’s Department, E.O.W. April 4, 2004.

We all grieve over the lives lost in the line of duty. I hope you can find some comfort knowing that there are countless prayers that go out for your family.

These are senseless tragedies that never seem to stop. God Bless the men and women who continue to serve their communities in our great Nation.
