Reflections for Sergeant John Mathew Maki

Maki,

You were a great friend and a great help with me in the Academy. You were the reason why I went to the Academy and I will always remember your involvement in my life. Celeste Pd will never be the same!

John,

Thanks for your service as an Officer and to the UTD Explorer program. But most of all, my wife and I thank you for your friendship. It was a pleasure and an honor to serve with you.

I'm from Celeste Texas, and in a week, my son, the one you spent many days and nights trying to keep out of trouble, will be graduating from Celeste High School with the rest of his class. Thank you for caring about him and all of the other 700+ citizens of Celeste. I am so sorry that the bogus call you were responding to was your last.

I stop by this website often after the death of two dear friends with the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003).
Unfortunately, I had to add the name of another friend. Deputy Jeffrey Hewitt, Buncombe County (NC) Sheriff’s Department, E.O.W. April 4, 2004.

We all grieve over the lives lost in the line of duty. I hope you can find some comfort knowing that there are countless prayers that go out for your family.

These are senseless tragedies that never seem to stop. God Bless the men and women who continue to serve their communities in our great Nation.
