Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Joshua Edwin Blyler

Dear Josh,

It has been a little over a week since we celebrated your life and laid you to rest. Your brothers and sisters at the Sheriff's Office stood tall and we all honored you to the fullest. Please watch over all of us still left here to protect the community which you devoted your life to, and ultimately gave your life for. We take care of our own and their families, and you and your's will not be forotten. We will always honor your memory. Godspeed my brother, till we meet again.

I don't know if I can even put into words how incredibly special Josh was and still is. He was a light that touched every person he came in contact with. Every day that I live without him on this earth, I look forward to the day I will see him again with our Lord. I have the greatest peace knowing that Josh is walking streets of gold, settling in his "sweet" mansion, chatting with those who have also gone before, and most of all...resting in the arms of Jesus. My dearest Josh...you will always hold the keys to a very special place in my heart. I will never forget your handsome smile, nor the happiness it gave me every time you smiled at me. It was a true joy to be with you and have you in my life. I miss you greatly and love you dearly.
Josh would want us to glorify the Lord, even in this time of extreme sorrow. As the psalmist wrote in Psalm 34:1..."I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth". Josh is praising the Lord as I write and as you read. Thank you Lord, that Josh is abiding with You.

Dear Lord, 10-65 10-45 (copy my call), I'm calling up a prayer.
In reference to our friend Josh, we know he's with you there.
Let him know he is remembered, he's made a difference in our lives as you can tell.
We feel his badge has grown some wings, and we know he'll wear them well.

We loved working with Josh. He often worked in “Zone 1”, which is the same zone that our office is in, and he visited us frequently. When he came to visit, he always had a smile on his face and always brought smiles to ours. Josh was a good friend and an excellent deputy sheriff. He was an all-around great person, and he will be greatly missed by all of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I was a classmate of Josh in Academy, and also served as class Chaplain. When I spoke to Joh a month or so ago, he said, "It's all I ever thought it would be and more." He was a breath of fresh air, who breathed life into everyone whom he encountered. May God bless Josh as he shares His closest company, and may God bless his family as they begin to mend and put their lives back together.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and co-workers of Deputy Blyler. I am currently deployed overseas with a close friend of Joshua's, Deputy Chris Mackley. There are a few LEO's on this deployment and we all share the loss of Joshua. He was a brave man doing a job that few would want to do but all need to have done.

The policeman stood and faced his God,which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman. How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?
The policeman squared his shoulders and said.
"No, I guess I ain't because those of us who carry a badge can't always be a Saint."
I've had to work most Sundays
and at times my talk is rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny that wasn't mine to keep...
though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help
though at times I shook with fear,
and sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here.
They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much, but if you don't...I'll understand"
There was a silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman.
You've borne you burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets.
You've done your time in Hell"
