I would like to extend my sympathies to his wife and family during this terribly tragic time. I also ride a bike for the Sheriff's Office and am reminded over and over again how terribly long a split second is. Please know that your loved one is safe in the arms of the good Lord now and you will see
him again one day. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Lewis Family and Friends,

I am sorry to hear about your loss. Please take some comfort in two verses from the Bible: "Blessed are they that mourn; for they shall be comforted." Matt. 5:4 and "Blessed are the peacemakers; for they shall be called the Children of God." Matt. 5:9. God Bless.

Officer Lewis,

As we finish a graveyard shift on the night of your passing, we sit here as does everyone in the Comm Center in a silent stupor. The news of your passing does not seem real; we had just heard you on the air and know of your accomplishments, both as a dedicated Patrol Specialist and as a valued member of the Search and Rescue Team.

The news broke the story of your tragic collision and a text message a short time later confirmed our worse fears. Tragedy pulls at our hearts often in this area of the state, but seldom does it take one of our own.

We will mourn your passing with heavy hearts, and we will continue to honor the work that you did for the citizens of Tacoma by protecting your family in blue the best we can. To your family, we offer what no words can - sympathy and respect for a man who did his life well. Our prayers will light the way over the days and week that follow, as we will never forget your husband and father. God bless you, Officer Lewis, and your family.

To those I Love and Those Who Love Me

When I am gone, release me, Let me go
I have so many things to see and do.
You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears,
Be happy that we had so many years.

I gave you my love, you can only guess
How much you gave to me in happiness.
I thank you for the love you each have shown,
But now it's time I traveled alone.

So grieve a while for if grieve you must
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It's only for a while that we must part
So bless the memories within your heart,

I won't be far away, for life goes on
So if you need me, call and I will come
Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near
And if you listen wih your heart, you'll
Hear all of my love around you soft and clear

And when you must come this way alone,
I'll greet you with a smile and say,
"Welcome Home"

We too lost a very dear friend that was an officer almost a year ago. May u rest in peace

“When God made Peace Officers….”

When the lord was creating Peace Officers, he was into his sixth day of overtime when an angel appeared and said, “You’re doing a lot of fiddling around on this one.”

And the Lord said, Have you read the spec on this order? A Peace Officer has to be able to run five miles through alleys in the dark, scale walls, enter homes the health inspector wouldn’t touch, and not wrinkle their uniform.

They have to be able to sit in an undercover car all day on a stakeout, cover a homicide scene that night, canvass the neighborhood for witnesses, and testify in court the next day.

They have to be in top physical condition at all times, running on black coffee and half- eaten meals. And they have to have six pairs of hands.

The angel shook her head slowly and said, “Six pairs of hands….No Way.”

“It’s not the hands that are causing me the problems,” said the Lord, “It’s the three pairs of eyes an officer has to have.”

That’s on the standard model? asked the angel.

The Lord nodded. One pair that sees through a bulge in a pocket before he asks, “May I see what’s in there sir?” (When they already know and wishes they had taken that accounting job.) Another pair here in the side of their head for their partners’ safety. And another pair of eyes here in front that can look reassuringly at a bleeding victim and say, “ You’ll be alright ma’am, when they know it isn’t so.”

“Lord,” said the angel, touching his sleeve,” rest and work tomorrow.”

“I can’t,” said the Lord, “I already have a model that can talk a 250 pound drunk into a patrol car without incident and feed a family of five on civil service paycheck.”

The angel circled the model of the Peace Officer very slowly, “Can it think?” she asked.

“You bet,” said the Lord, “It can tell you elements of a hundred crimes, recite Miranda warnings in it’s sleep; detain, investigate, search, and arrest a gang member on the street in less time than it takes five judges to debate the legality of the stop…and still it keeps it’s sense of humor.

This officer also has phenomenal personal control. They can deal with crime scenes painted in HELL, coax a confession from a child abuser, comfort a murder victim’s family’ and then read in the daily paper how Law Enforcement isn’t sensitive to the rights of criminal suspects.

Finally, the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek of the Peace Officer. “There’s a leak,” she pronounced. “I told you that you were trying to put too much into this model.”

“That’s not a leak,” said the Lord, “It’s a tear.”

“What’s the tear for?” asked the angel.

“It’s for bottled-up emotions, for fallen comrades, for commitment to that funny piece of cloth called the American flag, and for justice.”

“You’re a genius,” said the angel.

The Lord looked sober. “I didn’t put it there,” he said.

Officer Lewis,

I fear for our brothers and sisters even more deeply when I see them running hot on motorcycles- I know the dangers are so profound. It's awful that collateral risks are sometimes even more perilous than the call to which an officer is headed.

But you were hurried not for the apprehension of a criminal, so much as to support your colleague- true heroism. Surely, all law enforcement are touched by your loyalty and sense of family. I know I am, and I will carry the memory of your actions with me always.
