Sometimes, it's difficult to understand why some things have to be. But in His wisdom God has planned beyond our powers to see.
So look back in tenderness along the path we trod....
We cherish the years and leave the rest to God.
My most sincere condolences to the family of Trooper Brown, and to the FHP.

Every death touches our humanity. No death touches our souls more than the death of a fellow Police Officer. Andy worked out of the area office here for a time. He was always a professional. Our sympathy to Andy's family and fellow troopers. If one must give up his life, let it be doing something you truly love, Andy understands that!

Please remember the fallen officers we have lost. Remember the men and women who died trying to make this world a safer and better place for us all to live in. Thank you Sergeant Brown for a job well done. Please continue to watch over us and protect us as only you can. You will forever be at our side and in our hearts.
For those of you who still have loved ones with us please take the time to tell them how much you appreciate and care about them.
IF I KNEW
If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.
If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.
If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.
If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.
If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.
For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.
There will always be another day
to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"
But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.
Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.
So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,
That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.
So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear
Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

To some he was a friend
To others he was an idol
He always stopped to lend a hand
And constantly made others smile.
I first met Andy at the Academy during the last weeks of my recruit class. He was definitely an inspiration. He told us all how much of a privelege it was to be in our line of work. He told us to keep up our appearance up at all times, that it was important, as we represented the patrol. He also said to try smiling and waving at people at redlights.
After the Academy, I was fortunate to work in Troop B where Andy was assigned.
Here, I worked my first airplane detail with him and I didn't exactly know the process. As he started calling one for me, I started moving out to catch it, not realizing the delay to get to me. He laughed and said just wait there, I'll bring him to ya.
I also remember Andy would buy Sonny's sweet tea by the gallon. He always brought a smile to my face.
Andy, you will sorely be missed.
My sincere condolences to Andy's son and the rest of his family.

No words can describe the hurt we all feel in our hearts. Andy was an inspiration to hundreds of recruits that passed through the FHP Academy. When everything around you was bad, he always had a story that would make you laugh. He was one of the most professional Law Enforcement Officers that I ever had the pleasure to know. He was always concerned about his appearance, and appearance of his vehicle. Andy always told us several things, 1). To tell the TRUTH, no matter how bad it was. 2). That the pen is the most powerful tool in the world, and 3). “For god’s sake don’t run out of GAS”. Andy you will be missed by many, but you will never be forgotten. Rest in peace

When I returned from Desert Storm in 1990, Andy was supposed to get a new Ford Mustang. He knew I had given mine up when I was activated, and gave me his new car when I returned to duty. In all the years I knew him he never bad mouthed the Patrol. He truely loved his job a consumate professional. He will be greatly missed.

I WAS GLAD TO SEE SGT. COONCE HAD POSTED ON THIS SITE. HE WAS ONE OF THE FIRST PEOPLE I THOUGHT OF AFTER THE ACCIDENT. I KNEW HE WAS IN IRAQ AND WONDERED IF HE WOULD KNOW. LIKE COONCE, I ALSO ENJOYED WORKING ON THE INTERSTATE WITH SGT. BROWN. I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYONE SO EXCITED ABOUT ENFORCING TRAFFIC LAWS AS HE WAS. I REMEMBER HIS PET PEEVE OF SEMIS DRIVING IN THE WRONG LANE. I ALSO REMEMBER HIS EARLY MORNING CALLS TO SEE IF I WANTED TO WORK WITH THE PLANE OR WORK LASER. SOME OF THESE CALLS WERE RECEIVED AFTER I WORKED ALL NIGHT, BUT HE HAD NO WAY OF KNOWING. I REMEMBER HIM DRIVING AFTER A VIOLATOR WITH THE LASER LAYING ON THE LIGHT BAR OF HIS CAR. HE CAME BACK TO MEET ME AND IT HAD MADE THE RIDE WITHOUT FALLING OFF. ONE THING THAT STICKS OUT THE MOST WAS HIS COURTROOM PRESENTATION. I ALWAYS ENJOYED HIS TESTIMONY. A SIMPLE TRAFFIC HEARING WOULD HAVE A HUMOROUS AND INTERESTING SIDE TO IT BECAUSE OF HIM. YOU ALWAYS KNEW THE OUTCOME BECAUSE HE WAS PREPARED AND PROFESSIONAL. YOU WOULD BE PROUD OF HOW YOUR FELLOW TROOPERS WORKED AFTER THE ACCIDENT. ALL THE LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES PULLED TOGETHER, AND WORKED THE INVESTIGATION. I WAS PROUD TO SAY I WAS A COP THAT DAY. REST IN PEACE. WE WILL SEE YOU AGAIN. KEEP YOUR FAVORITE STOP WATCH HANDY TILL THEN.

I NEVER DREAMED IT WOULD BE ME,
MY NAME FOR ALL ETERNITY.
RECORDED HERE AT THIS HALLOWED PLACE,
ALAS, MY NAME, NO MORE MY FACE.
"IN THE LINE OF DUTY" I HEAR THEM SAY.
MY FAMILY NOW THE PRICE TO PAY.
MY FOLDED FLAG STAINED WITH THEIR TEARS,
WE ONLY HAD THOSE FEW SHORT YEARS.
THE BADGE NO LONGER ON MY CHEST,
I SLEEP NOW IN ETERNAL REST.
MY SWORD I PASS TO THOSE BEHIND,
AND PRAY THEY KEEP THIS THOUGHT IN MIND.
I NEVER DREAMED IT WOULD BE ME,
AND WITH A HEAVY HEART AND BENDED KNEE,
I ASK FOR ALL HERE FROM THE PAST...
DEAR GOD LET MY NAME BE THE LAST.

Thh circumstances behind your death are tragic. I can only hope that you died doing the job that you loved doing instead of died on this job only because you couldn't leave for family financial reasons....
My deepest sympathies go out to your family, friends, and coworkers in this difficult time. Salute.

I remember Andy when I was stationed in Cross City. He would fly in and work for the day, and we always had to go to Sonny's BBQ for tea and a salad. It was a pleasure to have worked with him and to know him. He will be missed by many.
