I recently visited the fallen officer memorial in Washington D.C. to to pay tribute to people just like yourself. Some of them close friends. I read an inscription on the wall that says it all.
" IT'S NOT HOW THESE OFFICERS DIED THAT MADE THEM HEROS. IT'S HOW THEY LIVED"!
Your time on this earth was cut way too short, but you had served your purpose to GOD. There are people out there that have been touched by you even if you didn't realize it. This is a fact not an oppinion. Lives changed for the better because of you. Rest in peace brother. YOU DID YOUR JOB! Thank you for keeping us safe!

On the evening of 04/04/04, our law enforcement family lost one of its best! Jeff, I always looked up to you as a professional member of the Buncombe County Sheriff's Department and you will definately be missed. Tracy, take peace during this difficult time and know that Jeff is running and laughing among the angels. Allow yourself to let God wrap his loving arms around you so he can guide you through the rest of your life here on earth. To all of my brothers at the BCSD, please know that Jeff would want each of you to carry on and remember all of the good times that he brought to you! Rest in peace my brother.

But we in it shall be remember'd;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:......"

First of all, to Jeff's wife, I want to say how sorry I am. I can't even imagine what you're feeling right now. I'm praying for God to grant you peace and strength and hope. Know that Jeff was loved and respected. I hope that you can find comfort in the fact that you are not alone in your pain. That we stand beside you and we're here to hold you up. More importantly, we have the promise that God will never leave us nor forsake us.
To the rest of Jeff's family, my heart goes out to you all. It's difficult anytme to lose a loved one, but when they are taken so unexpectedly and in a manner such as this, it seems to deepen the hurt. You are in my prayers.
For all Jeff's friends and co-workers at BCSD, I want to say that I have a renewed respect for you all. Especially the ones that were working along w/ me that night. The response of all the officers from all the different agencies and the communications that it took to get everyone there to work together for one purpose was in itself, amazing. I honor you all. I just wish, like I know you all do, that I could hear, "E2 10-8" . I will miss his cheerful attitude and his sense of humor. He was always ready and willing to do whatever was asked of him. He was an outstanding officer, and his passing leaves a hole in all our hearts. Buncombe to E2, we'll show you 10-42 signal 3.
