Dear Cantu Family,
I am sorry to hear about your loss. Take some comfort in two verses from the Bible: "Blessed are they that mourn; for they shall be comforted." Matt. 5:4 and "Blessed are the peacemakers; for they shall be called the children of God." Matt 5:9. God Bless

I work every day with an HPD alumnus who faces a photo of the Houston Police Officers Memorial whenever he sits at his desk. I marvel at the stories he shares of his brothers and sisters back in Houston- their risks and their brotherhood.
Officer Cantu, you helped forge something much larger than you could have realized while doing a hero's work in some of the most daunting settings conceivable.
I salute your courage, your duty and your legacy.
Thank you, sir, dearly.

Officer Cantu:
Another sad and tragic day for law enforcement. Your death diminshes
us all. Thank you for your 19 years of selfless service and sacrifice. For
those left behind,it is a long road to healing that lies ahead, but I know
that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will extend His mercy and comfort
to all who reach out to Him. There is none greater than He. We don't get
to Heaven based on what we do,but what He did for us!! AMEN! There is
now a huge void that cannot be filled. God be with all those who mourn
and may His promises lift all those with heavy hearts for many years to
come.

I NEVER DREAMED IT WOULD BE ME,
MY NAME FOR ALL ETERNITY.
RECORDED HERE AT THIS HALLOWED PLACE,
ALAS, MY NAME, NO MORE MY FACE.
"IN THE LINE OF DUTY" I HEAR THEM SAY.
MY FAMILY NOW THE PRICE TO PAY.
MY FOLDED FLAG STAINED WITH THEIR TEARS,
WE ONLY HAD THOSE FEW SHORT YEARS.
THE BADGE NO LONGER ON MY CHEST,
I SLEEP NOW IN ETERNAL REST.
MY SWORD I PASS TO THOSE BEHIND,
AND PRAY THEY KEEP THIS THOUGHT IN MIND.
I NEVER DREAMED IT WOULD BE ME,
AND WITH A HEAVY HEART AND BENDED KNEE,
I ASK FOR ALL HERE FROM THE PAST...
DEAR GOD LET MY NAME BE THE LAST.

To the family, friends and fellow officers of Officer Cantu:
A little over 2 years ago my husband, Motorcycle Officer Keith A. Dees was killed in the line of duty. I am very sorry for your loss. I know there are few words at this time that will comfort you. Your memories of him are instilled in your mind forever and for many months to come you will replay them. Please know however; you are in the thoughts of many, most of whom you will never meet......because as I found out just as you will, Officer Cantu touched MANY lifes along the way during his career and made an impact in their life. He was a hero.
Keep your faith, keep your memories and the rest will fall into place as it should be.
