My fiance, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. Dennis died doing a job he loved, just as I'm sure Jason did. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Jason be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Deputy Scott's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all, especially to his wife. No one can truly understand the pain of our loss until they've walked in our shoes. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through this tough time, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you.

Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that Jason is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain Jason was well respected and well loved.

Thank you for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please say "hello" to my fiance Dennis for me.

LENOIR CITY (WATE) -- Loudon County deputy Jason Scott, the officer shot and killed while responding to a domestic violence call, leaves behind a wife and unborn child. Scott's wife is just days away from giving birth. [ officer killed ]

Loudon County Sheriff Tim Guider says in the past the couple struggled to have a successful pregnancy. This last attempt had them looking forward to their miracle baby.

"They had had a couple of hard times having a child," Guider said tearfully. "They had lost one. This one was full term. They were going to allow it to be born whenever."

Scott and his wife had already picked out a name for their daughter, Jayden Nicole.

Deputy Scott was a Loudon County native and a three year veteran with the sheriff's department.


Funeral arrangements for Scott are finalized. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. at New Macedonia Church on the Loudon/Monroe County line. The funeral will follow at 7:00.

A graveside service will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. at New Macedonia Cemetary.

The Scott family has set up memorial fund accounts at two Community Bank of Loudon County locations. You can designate the money to Jayden Nicole.

Sometimes it seems as though life isn't fare, and I strongly agree.....But at least we can be sure of one thing.......Jason is in a much better place smiling down on us. I to am a police officer, so I am aware of the daily risk that we take, but sometime in a sinful world we live in, a troubled soul feels they have to resort to violence and damage us all because of how life treated them. Sometimes my heart is just too heavy to try to write something so at
times it takes a couple of days before I feel like I can respond. My heart
is heavy for all the victims here cuz there are so many! I feel for the
deputy and his family and for their great loss, but also, because I am a
Mom, I feel for the mother who herself suffered at the hands of her own
flesh and blood and saw him not only take someone else's life, but also
his own. How much pain there is in all of this! To the little baby who will
never experience his Daddy's touch and love, to the wife who must go on
without her husband's help and support, to the parents who should never
have to bury their children, to the siblings, other relatives, friends and
co-workers who must continue with such a void in their lives, I am truly
sorry for your pain. This is God size pain, but Christ is able to carry our
burdens. There is none greater than Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
We don't get to Heaven based on what we do, but what He did for us by
dying on that cross for everyone's sin. AMEN! There is now a huge void
that cannot be filled. God be with all those who mourn and may His
promises lift all those with heavy hearts for many years to come.
