Reflections for Police Officer Ricardo Lizarraga

I had not heard about Officer Lizarraga until today, when I visited the ODMP site. When I saw LAPD at the top of the list, a dark cloud surrounded my heart. I’m retired from LAPD now and work for another department. But my heart is still with LAPD and always will be. Words can’t express my sorrow, and my tears fall once again, mourning a tragic, senseless loss. My thoughts and prayers go out to Officer Lizarraga’s family and friends, and to my LAPD brothers and sisters. Officer Lizarraga, watch over us from high and keep us strong and safe. And rest easy, my brother. We have the watch.

Words can not express the deep sorrow my wife and I Feel about the passing of our brother Police Officer Ricardo Lizarraga. For Ricardo's wife, mother and the rest of his family know that God holds you in his hands during these troubled times and remember to go to him when you need the confort that no other can provide.
I did not know Ricardo personally but I can tell you for sure that he did not die in vain. His bravery and honor shone bright on that day and I am sure that as he looks down at us from heaven he is holding his up high, the proudest of men and willing to fight the good fight if given the chance again.
Not too many people can say that they have been on the opposite end of a criminal's bullet but having been there myself, it makes me proud to say that I will forever share this bond with my brother Ricardo.

I know this website is for law enforcement personnel "reflections," but I think it's important for Officer Ricardo Lizarraga's family and co-workers to know that the average citizen living in Every Town, USA, appreciates the sacrificies (dangerous work, low pay, long hours, missing holidays and family events, dealing with lowlifes, etc.) made on a daily basis.

I heard the news of Officer Ricardo Lizarraga's death because my nephew is an LAPD officer, and worked with him. Although I do not reside in California, I feel your loss, and am saddened from knowing a fine young man and officer is gone. I hope that it helps in some small way to know that appreciation for each of you resides not only in your closeknit community, but on the outside as well.

God bless each of you, and THANK YOU so much.

This news is shocking and disturbing to me. Officer Lizarraga did his job and did it well. To the LAPD and family, I say to you, honor him and be proud of him. Don't give up this fight. Continue to serve your communities well. Make him proud of you.

It was only 3 months ago that I lost my friend (Officer Pavelka) to a violent shooting. Since then, I have dedicated my career to putting the bad and the scum away behind bars. This is not an easy fight but together we can make a difference. Stay strong.......I share your grief.

Dear Mrs. Lizarraga, Family, Classmates and Coworkers:
I cannot begin to express the sorrow that I feel and the heartbreak that I feel when I see the faces of those who knew him well. Although I did not know him personally I know he was great guy because of the impact that he had on others. Seeing all of the support that everyone has given each other makes one want to be apart of the LAPD family. I pray that everyone will continue to support each other through this difficult time. My heart especially goes out to you Mrs. Lizarraga. You are the strongest woman I know and I hope that God continues to give you the strength to stay strong.
I just want to say that I could never do what you do. I could never deal with the people that you deal with and I could never risk my life for people who just don't give a dam... but YOU DO and I think that it is truly amazing. You all obviously have a special gift that includes COURAGE, COMPASSION, PATIENCE, INTEGRITY, and HEART. I could never do what you do and that is why I am so thankful for each and every police officer who protects and serves. I am forever thankful and indebted to you.

For Park and Officer Lizarraga's Classmates:

Classmates’ bonds can never be broken,
Because of the good times of smoking and jokin,
Graduation nor death cannot break it,
Think of how you supported each other to make it,
“What do you know?” was his phrase,
Keep in mind the good ole days,
He liked the competition of wrestling with you,
When you were just boots so fresh and new,
Over time your heart will mend,
Don’t think that this friendship could ever end,
Just because you lost the presence of a great brother,
Good ole Shrek, he is like no other,
Knowing him has made you stronger,
I know you wish his watch was longer,
But it is just not in God’s plan,
When you speak of him I see he was a great man,
He was sent to change your life,
He will rest at ease knowing you will watch over his wife,
Because the LAPD family watches over their own,
Rest at ease because he is finally home

Ricardo,

Our Brother, our partner, our friend. The loss is great, the grief is deep. You have worked two of the most tight knit divisions in the city - and worked them well. You patrolled a never-ending display of utter chaos without complaint.

Your name will be forever remembered by us. We will not forget. Talk to God for us. Fill him in on what's going on down here...tell him we need backup.

I watch this story unfold in the news. I prayed for Officer Lizarraga and his family. It had only been 6 months since I was in their shoes. My brother was killed in almost the same manner as he, by some one who should have never been on the streets. May the wife of this hero find stregnth in God above. May she understand that she is not alone and that she is in our prayers. To all of our law enforcement officer's, stay safe.
