Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jennifers' fiancee, family, friends, and department. Unfortunately this pain is felt by too many, as this site continues to grow. We are the family of a police officer killed in the line of duty, by senseless gunfire, just as these two fine young officers. The love and support we felt during that horrible time and continue to feel from our family in Blue, will never be forgotten.

A blue light is in our window and shines every day and night, there are blue ribbons on our cars, not just in May but throughout the year. We thank a police officer every time we see one and thank God for the time we had with our son, although too short.

Hold dear to the thought that God needed another angel to watch out for us all and he selected one of the best we had.
God Bless!

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.

Today, February 20, 2004 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Police Officers Matthew Bowens and Jennifer Fettig who died in the line of duty just four days ago.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Officer Bowens and Fettig's sacrifice will never be forgotten.

O,gentle Lord! Keep the day/night watch with me.As I begin my tour of duty, I ask your protection from all mental , physical and spiritual harm. Sustain me with the knowledge that I am doing your work, endeavoring to keep peace among your people. Help me to be just as I enforce the law without prejudice or favor to anyone. May I be courageous but not reckless in carrying out my duties. Let me respond to all calls with haste realizing that so many are dependent on me for life and safety. Support me with your consoling power when I am tempted to think no one really cares and that I am taken for granted.Sustain in me the conviction that so many thousands do care and are grateful for my presence.Grant that I may be loyal to my partner and my fellow officers, and that I may back them up effectively when called upon for assistance. Lord, I ask that I may return safely, after my tour of duty, to my loved ones and those who love me. I pray that I may be a good and honorable police officer : and after my tour of duty is over here on earth, may I enjoy the peace and happiness of heaven that you have promised to those who serve you well.AMEN Sent to the fellow officers;family and loved ones on your loss; by the father of Officer J.D.Koeppen,Capital City Raleigh NC and Trooper D.C.Koeppen,New Jersey State Police.

The city of Detroit, the state of Michigan, and America lost two heros. Two heros lost thier lives protecting everyone in the community that they served. Although the streets are plagued with violence they showed no fear. The ultimate sacrifice was made so that others could live in peace. Now they both work a beat where there is no violence. You will always be remembered as heros.

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."
