Reflections for Sheriff Osborne Bell

I was only 5 years old when my uncle was murdered on duty. Obviously I do not remember what a difficult time this was for my family. I do know how my cousins and aunt live daily remembering my uncle's bravery and dedication he had on and off the job. Please hold my family in your prayers as his upcoming 20 year anniversary of his murder nears. May God Bless and Keep all of us.

Rest in peace, brother. Your service and sacrifice have not been forgotten, nor will they ever be.
Continue to watch over those you left behind as you enjoy Heaven's rewards granted to you for your actions here.
We thank you and all of those warriors of justice who have been called Home. We pray that you have found eternal peace.
You will be remembered in our prayers until we are summoned to join you. Until then , we will carry the sword and continue the battle here.

I recall this tragic incident from when I was attending dental school in Memphis, TN. It seems Sheriff Bell was in the process of arresting a suspected drug dealer and had the man cuffed on a stretch of highway. Unbeknownst to Bell, a concealed pistol (a 25cal. automatic?) was in the man's waistband. He managed to finger it loose and shot the sheriff in the throat, mortally wounding him. The suspect was then wounded by a deputy, but not fatally. I hope if anyone remembers any more details that they would clarify this matter.
