Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Brian Robert Litz
JUDGMENT DAY
The Deputy stood and faced his God, which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining, just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now Deputy, how shall I Deal with you?"
"Have you always turned the other cheek, and to my chuch have you been true?"
The Deputy squared his shoulders and said " No Lord, I guess I havent.
Because those of us who carry badges can't always worship on Sabbath.
I've had to work most Sunday's and at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent because the streets are awfully rough.
Although I worked a lot, forsaking my family, when bills got too steep;
I never took a penny that wasn't mine to keep.
And sometimes, Lord forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place among your royalty here.
But, if you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be too grand.
I never expected or had too much; if not I promise I'll understand."
There was silence all around the throne, where Saints had often trod.
As the Deputy waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now Deputy, you've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's Street....."
"You've done your time in HELL."
Rest In Peace My Brother!!!

My fiance, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. Dennis died doing a job he loved, just as I'm sure Brian did. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Brian be the last to die this way.
Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Deputy Litz's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all, especially to his wife. No one can truly understand the pain of our loss until they've walked in our shoes. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through this tough time, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you.
Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that Brian is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain Brian was well respected and well loved.
Thank you for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please say "hello" to my fiance Dennis for me.
Peace, Love, Luck, and Happiness!

We hear of the thoughtful and kind person that you were, a life so short yet so wonderfully lived in the service of others. And so, God keep you safe and close to him forever, and may He always watch over your wonderful family.

At the cemetery I stood in a crowd of women, who like myself, are married to your brothers in law enforcement. I barely knew you. When I decided to attend your funeral it was to give support to my husband. He wanted to be there to show his support for you and to your closer friends, friends the two of you share, making up the brotherhood of the MCSO.
At your "viewing" it struck me how tiny and yet strong your wife is, and how warm and friendly your parents, brother, and sister-in-law are. Slowly I felt like I knew you. After looking at the display of pictures of you, I listened to some of your closest friends tell stories about you. People I know, strong people, looked so lost because of the loss and yet proud to say you were their friend.
At the funeral I saw the most awesome outpouring of love I have ever seen, the hardest to hear being Justice whimpering because he had lost his best friend. I had heard your close friends talk about how you wanted your funeral to be big, so I had to smile when its' full size unfolded.
At the cemetery the other wives, some who knew you and mourned your passing and some who were there in an effort to show support, and I stood behind the tent Cherie sat under. We heard the dogs barking, the guns firing, the trumpet playing, and then you signing off. Our hearts broke, and in that moment we became closer. You see, by learning and knowing what an awesome and wonderful husband, father, and officer you were we all knew how vulnerable we each are.
Thank you Brian for reminding me to never let my husband leave without telling him I love him. Thank you for making my commitment to our marriage stronger than it was before. Thank you for helping me to remember what a privilege it is to be married to a law enforcement officer. God is already the leader in our home. Now you will be like a little angel reminding us to never go to bed angry and to strive to give our children as many positive experiences to remember us by as possible.
I owe you and I hope I can repay my debt by being one of the people who helps your wife and son face their tomorrows. They are in our prayers, especially today, Valentines Day.

I loved it when we worked together, we were a special team. Your friendhip means the world to me. Now that the lord has taken you to potect and serve in heaven, I can only say that there is no "I" in team. This is why I have found a new team now. It is Cherie, lil Brian and me. I promise I will protect them from all evil in this world and you will be able to show your love through me.....
Thank you for being my handler...I Love You...

This week the men and women of law enforcement tearfully said farewell to a true American Hero, Deputy Brian Litz. Brian's untimely death has left us all asking the question why did this happen? As Brian's brother has said we will never really know why but I would offer this observation. The young men and women who are planning on pursuing a career in law enforcement have found a role model in Brian. In our department's Deputy Cadet Unit and in criminal justices classes throughout the county these young men and women look up to Brian as a hero. They want to emulate him. My son has placed Brian's photo on the cover of his criminal justice notebook. He tells me that his classmates are all looking for personal ways to remember Brian. So while Brian is gone from us he will never be forgotten. He will live on in the hearts of our future generation of law enforcement. I believe that Brian is standing at the right hand of Saint Michael the Archangel, the patron saint of law enforcement, and that he will continue to guide and protect this future generation as they pursue the noble career that he loved so much.

Brian Litz had tremendous character. He was not only an outstanding law enforcement officer, but an outstanding father, husband, and best friend. I owe him, his wife, and his son.
Brian was humbling. He was the one that you strived to be, and the one you hoped your son would grow up to be. His family does not deserve to have to deal with this tragedy, but I will say this as one of his best friends, "Brian lived and died a true hero. He would not have wanted it any other way; I am sure he just didn't expect it would be over this soon."
I had the pleasure of Brian Litz allowing me to be an important part of his life, and I will always remember and never forget his friendship, love, and guidance.
Brian, I can never repay you for everything you have done for me, but I can promise you this, I will look after your son, "little Brian", and your wife and family to the best of my ability. You can never be replaced, but I will do my best to live up to your standard. I owe you.
I will miss you,
chris
P.S. You were always better than I could ever be.

What a beautiful way to honor a fallen officer yesterday! I could not believe how many cars I saw. My grandmother is in the choir at Queen of Peace and she fell apart when she heard Justice howling. I just want to say that I was glad to hear that Justice was retired yesterday. He needs to be with the Litz family and they need to be there for him.
God Bless all of you,

Brian, You are a true hero. You, like so many other officers, have given their lives in service of their communities and this country. We are called to protect and help those in need. You paid the ultimate price doing just that. Some day 'Lil' Brian may read these reflectons and truly understand how special you were too those who knew you. Mrs. Litz, thank you for standing by Brian and supporting him. Our prayers go out to you, 'Lil' Brian and your family. The patience and understanding you provided for Brian makes you a hero as well. From my wife, children and law enforcement brothers and sisters and Taylor County,God Bless. We know Brian is with God now.

I had the great privilege of meeting this wonderful man in Dog training class. I was going through a rough time with a divorce and he took the time to talk to me and cheer me up by telling me stories of meeting and marrying his wife, Cherie. He even told me they were going out of town for the weekend to see family and asked if I would like to stay at their house for the weekend to "get away" so I did and I took care of their animals for them. He helped me at a very tough time and I will never forget what he did. Thank you for all the stories, and God bless Cherie and Brian Jr. He loved you more than anything in this world, Sincerely, Lori

I did not know Brian, but I heard about him a lot, and I knew that he was a man that was loved and very fun to be around. My mother and Mrs. Pistarelli always talked about him and his dog Justice. When I heard about the death of Deputy Litz, I was shocked, I did not know what to think or what I could do to help. My Mom was very upset and would not let anyone use the phone or the computer for hours. I attended Deputy Litz's funeral and what a funeral it was, very beautiful. I am praying for the family and the family at the Sheriff's Office and I know for a fact, no one will ever forget the impact that Deputy Litz left with us. As for Justice, you are an awesome friend to Litz and I know that he will miss him. Stay Strong and Keep you head up high.

The Lord is my shepherd. My heart was full of sadness and sorrow when I heard of the passing of Deputy Litz. I did not know him, but what I read about him the past few days, he was a fine officer. His family, MCSO, and the community as a whole has suffered a great loss. Remember, one day we will all meet again in God's kingdom. To the members of MCSO and Brian's family, may the Lord be with you. I end this with a prayer.
The God of peace, who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus Christ, the great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant; Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in that which is pleasing in his sight; through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen

To the family of Deputy Robert Litz;
First I want to extend my and my families sympathy for your terrible loss, No words can express the true sorrow that you must be going through, yet please be assured that many strangers to you and your family are thinking about you and saying a prayer for you.
As a former firefighter I would like to share this scripture with you as it to me shows the great man your husband, father, loved one and co-worker is and will forever be rembered as,
JOHN 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this; that he may lay down his life for his friends.
Deputy Robert Litz, like so many other law enforcement officers out there unselfishly are out on patrol everyday, serving, and protecting us their citizens and friends.
Sadly Deputy Litz layed down his life serving, and protecting, his citizens and friends.
God Bless You Deputy Litz, your family, and all those who continue to serve.

To the entire family of Officer Brian Litz:
I have been following all of this with deep shock and sadness from Brian's Agawam hometown. I've shed many many tears. Brian was a good friend to my brother Michael Karam - they graduated together in 85. As soon as I heard what happened, I took out an old photo album and found one of my favorite pictures - me and Brian standing in my parents living room on MY graduation day (1983).
Please know that Brian touched everyone - whether they knew him forever, or only for a few years. Myself just married, my heart absolutely aches for all Cherie has to be going through. Just know so many prayers and thoughts are with you all. And Lil Brian will be able to look back on all this and know how much of an impact his Dad had on everyone.
Brian, rest in peace.
