To the family and friends of Detective Wally Rolniak, his fellow officers, and most especially to Detective Rolniak:


I have read some of the loving reflections left for you by your wife, daughters, other family members and your friends. You are so missed by them.

I am so saddened that you had to lose your life in such a horrific crime.
Please know that your valor and dedication are not forgotten. Your memory is still revered by those who knew you personally, and others who learned of your heroism.

May your family continue to be supported by their law enforcement family, and other police survivors.
Our family grieves with them and for them. We share their anquish as we lost our beloved Larry Lasater when he was fatally shot on April 23, 2005 during a foot pursuit.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Detective Rolniak gave to his community and the citizens of Illinois, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on February 4, 2004.

I am so very very sorry for you and your family Officer Rolniak.I remember hearing what happened on the day after the tragedy wondering,how could such a horrible thing happen in such a small quiet town.

I attended your wake and I was going to but unable to attend a recent anniversary memorial for you.I would have left a reflection earlier but I was so busy,Im sorry.

Even though i am just a citezen of Riverdale,I do wish I could have been their to maybe just do something to help you.

But you will never be forgotten,atleast not in my heart and mind,for the sacrifice you made to keep our community safe.And the Riverdale Police department does a heck of a job keeping our town safe and a livable enviorment and in part because you.

I found this website by chance. Wally was the first officer I looked up. After all, I was a volunteer at his family's benefit at Bourbon Street in 2004. I still hvae my t-shirts from the benefit and I wear them every time I go to the gym.

To the Rolniak family: It brought tears to my eyes to read your reflections. I hope you didn't mind me reading them. Not surprising because I know you obviously loved your husband and dad very much. But when you couple this with how many people were at the benefit and how special it was, it just goes to show how much of a wonderful human being Wally must have been. I really wish I could have met the man. It was still a pleasure meeting you, his closest family.

I think of that benefit quite often. I was honored and continue to be honored to have been a part of it.

I know Wally's looking down on you. God bless.....

Detective Rolniak:

Thank you so much for your dedication and service to our country and your town. As a brother of the badge, I understand your sacrifice and how much it means to put your life on the line day in and day out. Today we remember you and all that you did. You are a true hero in my eyes as well as many others. Please continue to stand by us, we have the watch now. God bless your family and rest in peace.

Wally,I was thinking about you today. I found an oldies station on the radio, it's not as good as WJMK, but I was singing along anyway (I should say TRYING to sing, you know me, I can't carry a tune, but that never stopped me!)
