Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Nicholas Kevin Sloan

Our Greatest Fear

Yet once again the Thin Blue Line is diminished,

an officer’s final tour of duty is finished.

"Officer down", it’s our greatest fear,

and once again, I hold back a tear.

They patrol in the state, city, county and town,

in uniforms colored white, green, blue and brown.

The shape of their badges may vary,

but it’s a symbol that they all, proudly carry.

They leave for work with a kiss goodbye,

but some don’t come home, no matter how hard they try.

To uphold the law is the job that they pick,

with such high aspirations, why must some die so quick?

They leave behind loved ones, family and friends,

after their lives have met tragic ends.

Some die in crashes, others hearts not too stout,

to many have been lost when gunshots ring out.

Our Heavenly Father has called them home,

no more these dark streets do they roam.

Through trial and error they have given their best,

please Lord, now grant them eternal rest.

Yet once again the Thin Blue Line is diminished,

an officer’s final tour of duty is finished.

" Officer down", it’s our greatest fear,

and once again I hold back a tear.

Rest easy brother the watch is ours now. Our Prayers are with your family, friends and loved ones.

On behalf of the Houston Police Dept we wish to say just how deeply sorry it is to see another fellow officer taken way too soon. To the family of Officer Sloan I am truly sorry, but keep in mind we will continue to go out everyday, no matter the risks and continue to protect and serve, just like Officer Sloan did.

God Bless,

Brother, I just talked to you last night. What happened?

It is a great tribute that so many people, who never met you, take the time to leave a message. I wish your family the best during these hard times.

I especially keep your father, who was on duty at the time, and your mother who have to deal with this.

I am sure that your son will not be allowed to forget that you were a good man and great Officer.

Your Partner had a hard go but wil pull through. His sorrow is just beginning also.

Adrian wishes you well as do the Squirrels - Bobby, Terrell, Hal, Corby and I.

God Bless

"Acts of courage shape human history. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope." -Robert F. Kennedy

I would like to give my sympathy to the family of Officer Nick Sloan as well as the entire St. Louis Police Dept. The prayers of the Youngstown, Ohio Police Department are with each and every one of you.

Brother, I just talked to you last night. What happened. Something so stupid and useless.

It is a great tribute to you that so many people, who have never known you, spend the time to write these comments. I sincerely hope that your father (he was listening on the radio), who gave his career to this Department, and now his son, knows how greatly you were appreciated. No one can ever know how much it will hurt Him or your Mother.

Your son will not be allowed to forget that you were a good man, and a great Officer. We will make sure of that.

We do not forget about your partner. He was wounded and survived over 6 hours of surgery to overcome this. It is sad that this is only the beginning of his pain.

Adrian wishes you well, as do the Hal, Corb, Bob, Terrell and I! We all do.

Hey, Remember, we got that guy in the County!!!!

God Bless.

THE POLICEMAN’S LAST ROLL CALL ...

THE POLICEMAN STOOD AND FACED HIS GOD, WHICH MUST ALWAYS COME TO PASS. HE HOPED HIS SHOES WERE SHINING, JUST AS BRIGHTLY AS HIS BRASS. "STEP FORWARD NOW, POLICEMAN. HOW SHALL I DEAL WITH YOU? HAVE YOU ALWAYS TURNED THE OTHER CHEEK? TO MY CHURCH HAVE YOU BEEN TRUE?"

THE POLICEMAN SQUARED his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain’t. Because those of us who carry badges can’t always be a Saint. I’ve had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough, and sometimes I’ve been violent because the streets are awfully tough. But I never took a penny that wasn’t mine to keep, though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just got to steep. And I never passed a cry for help, though times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I’ve wept many unmanly tears. I know I don’t deserve a place among the people here, they never wanted me around except to calm their fear. If you’ve a place for me Lord, it needn’t be so grand. I never expected or had too much, but if you don’t, I’ll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod. As the policeman waited quietly, for the judgement of his God. "Step forward now, policeman, you’ve borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on Heaven’s streets, you’ve done your time in hell."

Rest in peace brother, and God bless your family.

Rest in peace, and thank you for keeping the peace for us all. The drug war will never be over, and officers like Officer Sloan will never give up on it while others do. His murder just goes to show that drug offenders are willing to kill anyone who gets in their way. I am grateful for his service in arresting drug offenders, and hope to be able to do the same in the future. He left us a great legacy.

God bless his child, family and fellow officers. He will never be forgotten.

I check this website every day, and just this week I noticed that it had been several weeks since our country last lost an officer. I never dreamed that I'd check tonight and be seeing another one of our own.
To officer Sloan's family...the pain will never go away, but everyday life will get easier (eventually). My heart absolutely breaks knowing the raw pain that you are now going through. You are in our prayers.

God bless brother. A murder and a robbery, as your child won't get the priviledge of knowing her father. Rest easy and know that you will not be forgotten as no hero shouldn't.
