A friend of mine who is an officer in the St Loius police department linked me to this site.
I did not know Nick Sloan but, for what it is worth, I wished to record my admiration and respect for law enforcement officers generally, wherever they may be, and for Nick Sloan personally. The danger in which Nick, and most of you generally, put yourselves on all our behalf is an example of the moral courage without which any society will ultimately disintegrate. That isn't said nearly often enough.
I hope that Nick's family will accept my condolences and respect not as some trite tribute from an unknown foreigner, but as genuine respect for someone who put his safety on the line to keep his city a little safer for his fellow human beings. There are no international boundaries where courage and sacrifice are concerned.
To Nick's family I cannot imagine there is anything I could say to help the hurt. I hope the respects for Nick will comfort in some small way. My family's prayer's tonight will be for you and yours, for what that is worth.
Yours sincerely

It saddens me to look at this web site and see the names of people that do the same that I do and pay the ultimate sacrifice. P.O. Nick Sloan did make a difference and will always be remembered.
In our line of work it is so easy to let our gaurd down while knowing that by letting our gaurd down it may mean the difference in going home at the end of our tour. We're all aware of it when we hire on. We all know it's not an easy job.
I know I look at this web site and see all the officers that paid the ultimate sacrifice and I "remember". Myself and other officers that read these tributes "remember", and by doing that it keeps myself and other officers from making the ultimate sacrifice. P.O. Nick Sloan and all the other officers that paid the ultimate sacrifice will make myself and other officers "remember" the next time we start our tour. By doing that they have saved our lives.
I never met P.O. Nick Sloan or any of the others we've lost, but I know they died so myself and other officers will "remember" and end our tours safely.
Thank you for that and you are not forgotten.
