You could have given me a speeding ticket that cold December morning, but you did not. Instead, you listened to my story and realized that because I was new to the Peninsula, the offense was unintentional. Further, you looked into the car to see my scared 4year old peering out at you. I think it was more important to you to make the right impression on my small child than it was to issue that ticket. Thank you. My boy and I had a great time sledding on the Sears Elementary hill. Oh, and I remember you when your stepson and my son were playing baseball together. You seemed to really enjoy yourself. Thank you for protecting our community...may God keep you close. Although I get the impression that you and Michael probably get your fair share of action.

Although we knew each other for years (I even mistook you for my husband a couple of times from a distance) I'll never forget the day you came into my salon and bought Kathy a gift cetificate for a massage for her Birthday/Christmas. It was Christmas Eve, the day before you were taken from us. Somehow, you must have known she would need it. Although I'll never be able to make any sense of your tragic death, my silver lining has been rekindling my almost 30 year friendship with Kathy. She misses you every day and loves you very much! You are still a very active presence in your family through the love of your awesome wife's memories. She has become one of my very dearest friends and I cherish our friendship to the nth degree! I know you're looking down on her and your whole family but rocking Heaven on your Harley! Love to you John!

John,

Even though I was to young to be an exploer at KPD while you were here, I still learned so much from you. The bad guys you delt with, were treated with dignity and respect. Not that they were just some dumb criminal and they were less than human. I remember when we would see you doing a traffic stop, my brother and I would both yell to our Mom "Somebody's getting a lecture!" And we could tell that you were indeed in full lecture mode. Im 19 now and working on a criminal justice degree. I want to follow your example and be the best police officer that I can be. Thank you.

Hey Baby,
I was just thinking about you today. So I just had to come visit you, again. You still ride, both above me and with me, keeping your watchful eye on me and the whole family. Keep on watching, I rest assured knowing that you are always with me. I love you and miss you.

Today in the sun, I bid him farewell
A man, a hero, I never knew well

Like many before him, who answered the call
Wearing a badge, he was destined to fall

Though by choice a long life and a happy old age
Would he have chosen, had he written the page

But the office he chose never promised long life
Just half of his salary, for his child and his wife

He went without fear, into the darkness of night
Bringing comfort to some, to some others light

Easing their pain and calming their fears
He did his duty, never asking for cheers

A husband, a cop, he answered the call
We bid him farewell for he gave his all

hey uncle john,
i don't think i've ever written to you. it's been a while, but I still think of you daily. grandma got me a necklace like her's in the shape of a police badge and your info is engraved on the back. it hangs on my lamp next to my bed, so it's kind of hard to miss.
it's been a little over six years, and so much has changed in the watson family. it seems longer than that. david krista dad and i went to service with grandma which was in your remembrance. i know she appreciated it. i worry about her. she does so much for everyone and doesn't sit and rest for herself much i don't think. but maybe its so she doesn't get sad. and miss you, and grandpa, and soon to be some of her friends.
i guess i should go to bed.
watch over us uncle john. we miss you.

John,

Thinking of all the lessons you gave me as an explorer and the lessons you left when you gave the ultimate sacrifice. I often think of how proud you would be to see me fulfilling my dream. I also finally got my motorcycle endorsement so I'll be legal to ride with you when I get up there.
