It is always such a tragic loss when an officer loses his life in the line of duty, and it has an even greater impact on the young ones when all they can remember is their father died at Christmas time. I was on my way to Clinton, OK trying to arrest some people when I heard the news on the radio about 12 noon. My heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to Trooper Green's family, friends and co-workers during this time. I can only hope that the killer is quickly apprehended and given the justice he deserves for such a terrible act.

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.

Today, December 27, 2003 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Trooper Nikky J. Green who died in the line of duty just yesterday.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Trooper Green's sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Gently smiling, my name you were saying.

I'm Free

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free

I'm following the path God laid for me.

I took His hand when I heard Him call

I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day

To laugh, to love, to work or play.

Tasks left undone must stay that way

I found that peace at close of day.

If my parting has left a void,

Then fill it with remembered joy.

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,

Ah yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow

I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow

My life's been full, I've savored much

Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,

Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.

Lift up your hearts and share with me,

God wanted me now: He set me free.

My family knows all too well the meaning of this poem, I prayed that God would never let another Oklahoma Highway Patrol family go there such great sorrow. God only takes the best first. I know that Nick was meet by his brothers in brown that have gone before him. And that they will ALL by awaiting OUR arrival in heaven.
