Reflections for Trooper Scott Alan Patrick

I am so sorry for your loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Ironically, the death of Trooper Patrick marks the one year anniversary of the death of one of our officers almost to the hour who had a 7 week old baby.

To the family, friends and co-workers of Trooper Patrick,
There are no words I can give to express my sympathies or sadness this terrible day. There is no good time for this tragedy to happen, but certainly the holidays are much harder. The fact that Scott died trying to help someone is a testament to his character.
Just know on this darkest of days, that there are thousands of police officers all across this country that are hurting right now. We are all a family and if there is anything you need, as wife, father or colleague, please don't hesitate to ask anyone.
God Bless Scott Patrick, and while I can't make the funeral, know that I'm there snapping the cleanest salute in my whitest gloves.
Deepest sympathies,
Graham Campbell

Rest in peace, Trooper Patrick. It saddens me to see an officer fall unexepectedly while assisting another human being with evil intentions. You're a true hero, rest in peace.

Another officer's life has been taken, so close to Chritmas.

Our Greatest Fear

Yet once again the Thin Blue Line is diminished,

an officer’s final tour of duty is finished.

"Officer down", it’s our greatest fear,

and once again, I hold back a tear.

They patrol in the state, city, county and town,

in uniforms colored white, green, blue and brown.

The shape of their badges may vary,

but it’s a symbol that they all, proudly carry.

They leave for work with a kiss goodbye,

but some don’t come home, no matter how hard they try.

To uphold the law is the job that they pick,

with such high aspirations, why must some die so quick?

They leave behind loved ones, family and friends,

after their lives have met tragic ends.

Some die in crashes, others hearts not too stout,

to many have been lost when gunshots ring out.

Our Heavenly Father has called them home,

no more these dark streets do they roam.

Through trial and error they have given their best,

please Lord, now grant them eternal rest.

Yet once again the Thin Blue Line is diminished,

an officer’s final tour of duty is finished.

" Officer down", it’s our greatest fear,

and once again I hold back a tear.

God's speed Scott, we at District 13 will miss you.

Trooper Scott A. Patrick I humbly thank you for your service to the people of America and for the sacrifice you have made in the effort to help others. It is such a tragedy that in your attempt to help a stranded person it would turn out to be this way. Nonetheless, your effort is the epitome of what all of us in law enforcemnt stand for - to help our fellow man. My prayers are with your family, friends, co-workers and community. I would like to thank the Patrick family for their sacrifices for supporting a hero like Scott A. Patrick, who was able to perform the duties as a protector of America. God Bless you all. And may the hand of God bless the unborn infant of the Scott Patrick family. Amen.

There are no easy answers when incidents as tragic as this arise. The season makes it even more difficult to understand. Trooper Patrick was surely a credit to his agency and to the duty we share. Although a piece of us all died this day, we must remain steadfast and focused to our common cause.
To those who knew him and especially his wife and unborn child - I salute you. A true hero has gone before us.
Godspeed, young man. Be at ease. Until we can meet face to face, we'll take our turn at your watch.
