Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Glenn Matthew Searles

You are still loved and remembered after all this time. Thank you for showing us all how to have a bigger heart. They say time changes everything, and it heals. Our hearts may have healed since losing you, but time has not taken away or changed the love we all have for you. Happy Birthday Glenn.

Glenn - I have heard so much of you from your Mom. She is a very special person and loves and misses you dearly. I wish you Godspeed on this your 38th birthday. Geri, my wish for you is you feel our Lord's embrace this day in a tight hug.

Glen, my brother in blue, you are remembered!

Glenn, I have recently reconnected with your Mom and she led me to this site. You were a young boy when Patty and I (along with my mom "Grandma D") were in close friends with your mom and dad. I know that your sudden passing left a giant hole in the lives of many. In faith, I also know that you are now in God's loving embrace and that together you have watched over your Mom, dad, fiance and friends. Thank you for yor service to your community.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the sixth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I pray for solace for all those who love and miss you. Both the pain and the pride are forever. To your mother, I share your anquish in losing a beloved child which surely has to be life's greatest sorrow. Both the pain and pride are forever.

Rest In Peace

I just found out this news today so many years later.

Glenn was my best friend for most of my adolescent life. He was the best friend you could ask for. I wish I knew the man he became. All my love Glenn. You have always been remembered, now you will be that and missed.

A reminder and a birthday wish,Glenn, that your mother surely picked up on your "being a good guy" attitude. She makes you proud and honors you by the way she helps so many other surviving family members. Birthdays, holidays, and that terrible "EOW" all make up who you (and "we") are. Your touch and presence are now a memory but so glorious in that you helped others .... what a legacy!

Even before being an officer you always knew how to carry others through hard times with love and compassion. I still do this day have only found one man to be your equal. You were some of the best times of my younger years and will always hold a place in my heart for showing me the way.
Love you always Glenn.....

Glenn, your wonderful mom Geri is spending the day with us here at the Apopka Police Department, FL celebrating your 37th Birthday. She is doing a 12 hour ride-a-long with one of our officer’s and she brought in a huge birthday cake in your honor. I swear she is trying to fatten us up, but that’s what mom’s do best. Your mom has been part of our law enforcement family for several years now. She is active in our Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association, attends the Annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service and rides with an officer on your birthday and EOW. Your mom is such a wonderful person and we are truly blessed to have her as part of our family.

Rest In Peace My Brother

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Glenn, Your mom came to spend the day with us here in beautiful Apopka, Florida. She told me that on the anniversary of your EOW she'd rather spend it with cops. If you were anything like your mother, I'd have to say class act brother. God bless you.

Glenn, I can't believe that it has been 3 1/2 years. It seems like yesterday. I miss you every day. Your brother and I went to the Wall during National Police Week this year and spent some time with you.

A few months after your death, I became involved with Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS). It has been my way of honoring you as well as my way of grieving. Last November 29, I did a 12 hour ride-along with a police department here in Central Florida. It was the best way I could remember and honor you--spending the day with your brothers & sisters in law enforcement.

Love, Hugs and Kisses,
Mom
