Reflections for Officer Dean Edward Beattie

Dean was the greates stepdad any girl or boy could ever have. Dean would always lead us the right way. He loved me and my sister as if we were his own. He was also the funniest man I had ever met. You know as a little girl I really didn't like strangers but for some reason the first time I met him I liked him I could never really figure out why I liked the first time I met him but then, I figured out it was god who brought to different family's and made them one. I loved Dean so much words can't explain.I'm really sad Dean is gone but I'm glad he's in a better place and he made it to watch me grow thirteen on 11/2/03. Annelise Rivera (stepdaughter)

My heartfelt condolances go out to the family of Officer Beattie. May the love you shared bring you comfort in the days ahead. And to his fellow officers of the San Diego squad, may God salve your pain. With time comes acceptance, and the good memories will sustain you. God bless you.

After being squeezed in to Dean's Geo for the trip to the Calvary Chapel Men's retreat last year, it was going to my turn to drive. The truck is much bigger! I t was agood trip, we shared our lives, feelings, famlies, and made comments on how the others drove. That day I lost twice, a brother in the Lord, and a fellow officer. I know that Dean's relationship with Jesus means he is in heaven, and I will see him again. Dean loved the Lord, his family and fellow man. You will always ride with me on my tours.

It does my heart good, even helps ease the pain, to read tributes to you, Deanie. I was thinking, shortly before God saw fit to call for you, what a great Mary One you would have made. I love the things about you that don't seem to fit together: Your immensely religious faith in God, and yet your wonderfully devious sense of humor. It was your faith in God which helps us cope with the events that took your life. Louie Andrade said the thing which struck him most, when he first arrived at the scene, was the look on your face, that you looked "at peace". I thank God for that. I know beyond any doubt that whenever God would call for you, you would eagerly do his will. I think your faith in God was imparted in some degree to each one of us. I will forever remember your diabolical Alfred E. Neuman style chuckle. It meant either you had plans to do something sneaky or had just done somethng sneaky. It was my distinct honor to ride with you and Klause Groeger to Julian, on our Kawasakis, that one day, in a manner which would have frightened many sport riders. What a blast we had! I was so impressed by your family; Rosa and the children. She was magnificent in her poise and grace, and in her love and honor for you. So I ask myself: Is there really any doubt who is the San Diego CHP Officer of the Year? Our friend, Deanie. Just for once, I want everyone to know the RIGHT way to pronounce your name. Its not "Beattie". It's always been "Bedebedebedebedebede." God loves you, Dean. We all do.

Dean was a great person, I would have to look around to see
where he was hiding when I came home from work, always
hiding in a different place, he would scare me anyways, we
spend alot of time together and ejoyed every minute of it.
He said good night to the family every night before going to
bed, and in the morning he would wake me up at 4:15 am
before doing his morning devotion and kissed me good bye, and wished me a good day at work. I miss him very much, but it gives me peace to know that he knew he was going to heaven because he had a good relationship with GOD. He read his bible before going to bed and in the morning. Also enjoyed sharing his faith with everybody. I want to thank
the San Diego and El Cajon CHP for their support and everything they have done for our family, thank you Calvary
Chapel Ramona and thank you all that are praying for us,
we are blessed to have "YOU". Law enforcement personel
keep the good work. Thank you everybody.

Dear Rosa and family,
We have no words to describe the incredible loss that you, your children and your entire family have had to endure. Dean has been a co-worker of ours for 16 years and as you know, he was extremely popular and loved by all who knew him! We are all so fortunate to have been blessed by his friendship! Who knows what plan God has in mind... we just have to trust Him. Even though we have known Dean for so long, we learned so much more at his beautiful service. Bless you all and know Dean will be smiling down on his beloved family!
Our CHP family will always be there for you-
All our love.

My fiance, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. Dennis died doing a job he loved, just as I'm sure Dean did. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Dean be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Officer Beattie's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all, especially to his family. No one can truly understand the pain of our loss until they've walked in our shoes. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through this tough time, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you.

Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that Dean is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain Dean was well respected and well loved.

Thank you for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please say "hello" to my fiance Dennis for me.

Peace, Love, Luck, and Happiness!

Please remember the fallen officers we have lost. Remember the men and women who died trying to make this world a safer and better place for us all to live in. Thank you Officer Beattie for a job well done. Please continue to watch over us and protect us as only you can. You will forever be at our side and in our hearts.

For those of you who still have loved ones with us please take the time to tell them how much you appreciate and care about them.

IF I KNEW

If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.

There will always be another day
to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,

That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear

Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

It's another sad and tragic day for law enforcement as your death
diminshes us all. Thank you for your selfless service and sacrifice. It's
amazing to me that anyone would choose a law enforcement career
considering all the evil in the world. It is a long road to healing that lies
ahead, but I know that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will extend His
mercy and comfort to all who reach out to Him. There is none greater
than He. We don't get to Heaven based on what we do, but what He did
for us!! AMEN! There is now a huge void that cannot be filled. God be
with all those who mourn and may His promises lift all those with heavy
hearts for many years to come. My heart goes out to all those you loved
and all those who loved you. God bless. I look forward to meeting
Trooper Beattie one day.
