Every time a police officer falls in the line of duty a piece of each of us goes with him. The death of Officer Pavelka hit very close to home for me as my next door neighbor is a Burbank officer and I have social and business contact with others from your department. As a third generation Police Officer myself, I can only imagine that the pain his father is feeling must be agonizingly magnified. God bless your department and the family of Officer Pavelka. If I or any of my staff may be of any assistance to your department or the family please do not hesitate to call upon us.

Gates of Fire

"This is my shield.
I bear it before me into battle,
but is not mine alone.
It protects my brother on the left.
It protects my city.
I will never let my brother
out of his shadow
nor my city out of his shelter.
I will die with my
shield before me
facing the enemy."

--Stephen Pressfield

Even though we did not meet, I feel you were part of my family because my husband works as a Police Officer. My heart goes out to your family and to every single Police Officer and employees at Burbank Police Department. Thank you, Matthew for all you did to protect and serve everyone every time you put on your uniform. God be with you.

I don't think that Officer Pavelka knew that when he took the call to back up back another Officer that he would never go home again. We all answer the call day in and day out and we never think these kinds of people exsist, someone who gets out of a car and pulls guns on us, like a movie, but it's not.

You fought a great fight brother til the end and we're all proud of you. Rest in peace........

On September 11, 2003 our brother in blue with OPD, Sgt. Jason Tye Pratt, was gunned down and passed away on September 19. He was a wonderful husband, father, and friend to all. I wrote this to honor all LE officers and the work we do. Also to honor those who have worked their last shift and gave all they had to give. God bless Officer Pavelka and the Burbank Police Department. Your friends in Omaha have you in our hearts and our prayers.

The Man With The Badge

Two trucks cam to rest
in the middle of the road
twisted and crushed
from the weight of the load.
With life in the balance
and time running short,
he arrived to protect...
a knight in his court.
The man with the badge.

Her mother was hurt
her father upset.
This was the worst
he'd given her yet.
She'd called for his help
and extended her hand,
the child knew he'd come running
and that he'd understand.
The man with the badge.

He brings home what he sees
to his loved ones and yet
the hurt on their faces
he'll never forget.
He opens the bottle
again and again.
Drowning his sorrows
to hide from the pain.
The man with the badge.

His friend lay there still
his tears hit the ground.
An end to the loss
would never be found.
They were friends they were brothers
close from the start.
The memories they cherished
tugged at his heart.
The man with the badge.

My Thoughts and Prayers go to Matthew's Family, His Friends and His Fellow Officers

Matthew was a True Man, A wonderful man on the start of a much awaited and loved career. I had the extreme pleasure of knowing Matthew all of his much too short life.

Matthew's father has been my best friend for 43 years and today Matt's parents made a plea on tv, for anyone with any knowledge of the where abouts of the suspect to please come forward.

I will echo that plea, PLEASE

You will always be remembered
