7 years... some days it seems like yesterday; other days it seems like a lifetime ago. We are hiring people that were 15 years old when you made the ultimate sacrifice. We won't forget, and we talk about you often...

Mike, Bruce and Rick,
Just wanted to let you guys know the End of Watch Memorial Golf Outing went off without a hitch again. It was a perfect day for golf, always is, and Tuscumbia Country Club was in perfect condition. 155 golfers, who would have thought that in only 5 years we are turning golfers away because they done make the courses any bigger!
I want you guys to know that you were in everybody’s thoughts and prayers that day, as always, and the stories were flying (most of them true!). Thanks for watching over us.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Rick,
Even though we only spent 5 days together as partners at Sniper School, it was very apparent to me that you had a passion for your family and your job that was second to none. I ran into one of your Brothers at Winnebago SD at a school. Have comfort that your family is being watched over.
You are missed,

Rick-
Another year is coming to end, another that we have spent without you. I don't know where the past three years have gone. We missed you this Christmas, it will never be the same. Max told me the night before Christmas Eve that Christmas isn't just about remembering Jesus, but about remembering other people who died too. I knew he was talking about you, our special angel. Max and Bella were so excited about Santa this year, I know how much you would have enjoyed and shared in their excitement. As we start another year, please continue to watch over and guide us.
Love you forever, Tanya

Rick, It is hard to believe it has been 3 years since you were taken so suddenly from your family and friends. I only had the chance to meet you a couple times but I know my husband thought of you as a good friend. We have tried to make things easier for Tanya and the kids and to help her out as much as we can. She is such a good, strong woman, you must be so proud of her.
You are missed very much Rick, you and your family will always have a special place in my heart.

To all who serve and protect
Standing tall wearing blue
You live and die for honor
And you fight for what is true
You put your life on the line
Each and every day
You take pride in every single life
You have touched along the way
But a dark day has come upon you
As a brother was taken away
You know time will tell and heal all wounds
When you feel sad and down just pray
Remember to keep his smile
Near and dear to your heart
Never loose sight of the good times you had
And his memories shall never part
You must follow in his footsteps
With your heads held up high
When tears fill your eyes
Just say with a smile and look to the sky
Daddy, Husband, Brother, My friend :
We promise to continue to carry
The torch for peace and love
You started here on earth
And now watch over from heaven above

Rick, I never knew you, but just reading these posts, I know you were important to many people. I have two kids and one on the way.....I don't know why, but your story has really touched me. I was at your funeral and continually check this website. You have made me a better cop, at your funeral I had a big realization, you are near my age and have a family. Thank you for making me a better, safer cop. Tanya, I am so sorry for your loss, I cannot say it any other way. It kills me to think of your pain and your children's pain. Rick, you are gone, but for as long as I live, you will not be forgotten.

Rick and Family,
Although I didn't know you well, I miss seeing you on the road. I make remember the night you left us and will never forget Heidi calling me from dispatch and what she said. I read Tanya's messages and of Isebella and Max. I have my first due in December. I pray for your family and know that you are still being the best daddy you can from where you are. You will never be forgotten.
Walk the safe beats of Heaven now brother.

Rick-
As time continues to go by, my memories of you remain strong and there is not a day that goes by in our lives that I do not miss you and wish you were here sharing in our life and making memories with us. Some days it is still so hard to believe you are gone. I know that you continue to watch over and protect us and will forever be in our hearts. Isabella is almost two already. She looks like me but has your personality. Max is growing up so fast. He talks about you often. He has suggested that we send a ladder up to heaven or wish on a wishing star to bring you home, I wish it were so easy.
Love you forever, Tanya

Gone…but never forgotten
By Deputy John T. Kruser, WISO
God reached down from above and gave you wings so you could be free,
He had bigger and better things for you to do, and to see.
He needed someone special to patrol the streets of heaven, an angel just like you,
And when he called upon you, you knew exactly what to do.
You accepted his calling, as he coaxed you towards the brilliant light,
Knowing that he would guide you and keep you, the feeling just felt so right.
God took you to a higher place, where he gave you resume, and your orders,
He told you to come down and protect us, as your authority now has no borders.
He told you to protect all who put their lives in danger each day while on their beat,
He knew you were the right one to take on this immense feat.
As an officer, husband, and father, your dedication never bent,
Everyone who knew you knew you were heaven sent.
You are our Guardian Angel protecting us from harm as we continue the fight,
Knowing you will be with us at all times, protecting us with all your might.
You are gone, but not forgotten, you are a great man,
May God take you and hold you, in the palm of his hand.
In memory of our good friend and brother
