Reflections for Correctional Officer Frederick Gayle Hyatt
Another anniversary and your story never gets easier
to read. You did a job that so few are willing to do and
you died such a cruel death. Time has not diminished
your sacrifice and our hearts go out to those who knew
you. God bless.

Just when you think you have heard of the MOST despicable acts of the most depraved, you read something like this. C/O Hyatt had the kindest, most loving demeanor. I am truly sickened to read of his horrible demise. Take heart, dear ones, he will NEVER be forgotten.

You are greatly missed, brother. I will never forget the few lines we exchanged each night between shifts - you on your way in, me on my way out. I still get misty-eyed when I think about your kindness to the very one who ended your watch prematurely. We love you, Fred, and all like you who gave so much for so little in return. Tell Wayne "Cotton" Morgan that we miss him, too.

Boy, this turns my stomach like nothin' else. Another sad and tragic day for law enforcement. Your death diminshes us all. Thank you for your
selfless service and sacrifice in corrections. It is a long road to healing that lies ahead, but I know that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will extend His mercy and comfort to all who reach out to Him. There is none greater than He. We don't get to Heaven based on what we do, but what He did for us!! AMEN! There is now a huge void that cannot be filled. God be with all those who mourn and may His promises lift all those with heavy hearts for many years to come.

Fred, I hate that I lost yet another friend. I know that we are all always aware that we may give our all for this badge one day, but I never expected it to happen to you. I really hate that I cant come in and go look for stuff in your guild anymore. I miss chatting about things that were and telling you about wanting to be a Clarksville officer. I hate to know youre gone along with Yamil.. you two were great friends.. and now you rest not far from each other... along with all of the other heroes that have given their all. I hope to one day be able to live up to all the things you said i could accomplish. Be good ole friend.. God bless you and tell Yamil I miss him when you see him.

Fred was my friend.
I have known Fred for many years, from way back in Germany when he was an MP in the Army. Fred had such a soft soul, who really could not hurt anybody. He did not deserve to die like this.
Fred will always remain in my memories. I am glad I was able to visit with him just a few months before this happened.
My prayers are especially with his dear wife and son.
Rest in peace my Hero and Dear Friend.

most people would tell you that law enforcement is a dangerous job. i never listened. I was always afriad when there was a domestic call or when i heard dispatch say use caution with someone. My husband was a little man but his size never mattered to him. He wanted to be a policeman, he wanted to make the small town we lived in a safe place for everyone. i never thought that directing traffic would be the worst thing that he could do. I just want to say to all the officers that read this "To be careful out there and watch out for other drivers and be careful so you can go home to your family" GOD BLESS

It is so hard losing a brother Correctional Officer. As in Tennessee, we lost a sister officer in Florida a short time ago. It was another attempted escape.
My deepest sympathy to the relatives of this wonderful officer and all of my prayers to them, as well as the fine officers of the Tennessee Dept. of Corrections.

Stand tall, stand proud C/O Hyatt for you served us well. For those who pass through the steel gates day in and day out let us not forget those who have fallen and risen into heaven. When you hear the sound of brass keys clanging, that is the voices of our guardian angles reminding us to be safe and be proud! For you walk the toughest beat of them all.
