I was in Nashville the weekend this happened and was greatly saddened that yet another little corner of our country has lost someone doing a job so few would even attempt. As a police officer, we put away these bad people who Officer Hyatt chose to watch. I hope he's at peace, and I hope the good people and officers of Nashville don't forget what happened. I watched Officer Hyatt's wife and son on t.v. just hours after the incident. I hope they, too, get peace, and that everything is done to prevent such a tragendy again.

Boy, this turns my stomach like nothin' else. Another sad and tragic day
for law enforcement. Your death diminshes us all. Thank you for your
selfless service and sacrifice in corrections. It is a long road to healing
that lies ahead, but I know that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will
extend His mercy and comfort to all who reach out to Him. There is none
greater than He. We don't get to Heaven based on what we do, but what
He did for us!! AMEN! There is now a huge void that cannot be filled. God
be with all those who mourn and may His promises lift all those with
heavy hearts for many years to come.

People don't understand that being a correctional officer is just as dangerous as being a police office or deputy sheriff. When people go to jail or prison they don't stop being criminals. My god bless you and your family.

You do a job that most other police officers would not do. You will be remembered by many, and forgotten by none. Now you can protect the angels in Heaven.

HE OFFICERS LAST ROLL CALL ...

THE OFFICER STOOD AND FACED HIS GOD, WHICH MUST ALWAYS COME TO PASS. HE HOPED HIS SHOES WERE SHINING, JUST AS BRIGHTLY AS HIS BRASS. "STEP FORWARD NOW, OFFICER. HOW SHALL I DEAL WITH YOU? HAVE YOU ALWAYS TURNED THE OTHER CHEEK? TO MY CHURCH HAVE YOU BEEN TRUE?"

THE OFFICER SQUARED his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain’t. Because those of us who carry badges can’t always be a Saint. I’ve had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough, and sometimes I’ve been violent because the streets are awfully tough. But I never took a penny that wasn’t mine to keep, though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just got to steep. And I never passed a cry for help, though times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I’ve wept many unmanly tears. I know I don’t deserve a place among the people here, they never wanted me around except to calm their fear. If you’ve a place for me Lord, it needn’t be so grand. I never expected or had too much, but if you don’t, I’ll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod. As the officer waited quietly, for the judgement of his God. "Step forward now, officer, you’ve borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on Heaven’s streets, you’ve done your time in hell."

Rest in peace brother, and God bless your family.

I have a heavy heart reading this memorial. It is unfortunate that more citizens do not know what CO's do or the dangers that they face, in all levels of corrections.

I learned about corrections early on...when My Uncles, Ed and Jack, would cut short Thanksgiving dinner to do shifts at Elmira, and my dad did construction work at Auburn. I learned first hand at the lock-up in Richmond.

All I can say is thank you Fred Hyatt and all the members of the TN DOC. It appears that Fred slowed down this crew long enough to keep them inside, thereby keeping our communities safe, for this he is a hero and his memory will not be forgotten. May justice be swift and severe for these five. May they never walk outside the walls and fences of a DOC prison, and may the People of Tennessee have will to administer the death penalty against these evil men.

To his family and friends, may the Lord grant you all peace. My words are so inadequate, yet I want you to know that I care and that you will be in my prayers as you mourn this tragic loss.

GOD BLESS THE MEN AND WOMEN THAT ENTER INTO THE CAGES WITH THE BEAST'S OF SOCIETY. MANY PEOPLE WHO WORK IN LAW ENFORCEMENT WOULD NOT DREAM ABOUT BEING LOCKED INTO THE SAME AREA WITH THE WORST OUR SOCIETY HAS TO OFFER. I DID MY 5 YEARS AT A COUNTY JAIL SUPERVISING INMATES. IT IS A STESSFUL JOB. GOD BLESS THE MEN AND WOMEN OF THIS PROFESSION. GOD KEEP A HEALING HAND ON THIS FALLEN SON'S FAMILY. MY THERE BE NO MERCY ON THESE COWARDS THAT CARRIED OUT THIS TRAGIC EVENT.
