Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Phil Owens
To all that knew Deputy Owens he will be remembered as that example of Law Enforcement Officer we all strive to be. He always spoke when he passed and displayed his respect for rank. He carried himself as the professional officer he was. He strived to do his best and it showed in his reports. We can all be proud of the memories we have of Deputy Owens.Be thankful God allowed us the opportunity to share this carrier and agency with such an example of a Law Enforcement Officer.
To Deputy Owens' family we all grieve with you and will keep you in our prayers.

My thoughts and prayers are extended to the family of Deputy James. May God give you peace and comfort. If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.
This department has experienced two great losses in less than a month and it disturbs me deeply, however, we know that these deputies did not die in vain. They passed fulfilling their passion to keep our citizens safe. It takes a strong individual to lay down their life in the line of duty. Thank you, wear your wings proudly. God speed.

"For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer." - Romans 13:4
My prayers and tears go out to the family, friends and co-workers of Deputy Owens. There are no words I nor others can say that eases the excruciating pain and sense of tremendous loss you're experiencing. I went through it six years ago on September 20th when I lost my best friend in the line of duty. I felt like my heart was cut out of me on that terrible day and nearly turned in my badge and gun. But thanks be to God, our Father, my spirit was renewed and I was strengthened to carry on as my buddy would have wanted me to do.
Be strong and courageous. Don't try to make sense of it because it is beyond our comprehension. I pray that the peace and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always.

All of us here at the Crabtree Special Police / Security Department are saddened by the loss of yet another fellow officer. The loss of 2 deputies from the Wake County Sheriffs Office in this short of a time is just too un-imaginable. This community also had to endure a loss of another deputy not too far down the road in Harnett County, all in one months time. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Deputy Phil Owens his wife and child as well as his family. We also extend this grievance to the men and women of the Wake County Sheriffs Office, for their loss is too great for words. Rest easy brother, for your new beat is from a higher supervisor in heaven. God Bless

Please remember the fallen officers we have lost. Remember the men and women who died trying to make this world a safer and better place for us all to live in. Thank you Deputy Owens for a job well done. Please continue to watch over us and protect us as only you can. You will forever be at our side and in our hearts.
For those of you who still have loved ones with us please take the time to tell them how much you appreciate and care about them.
IF I KNEW
If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.
If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.
If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.
If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.
If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.
For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.
There will always be another day
to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"
But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.
Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.
So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,
That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.
So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear
Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.
Tonight, October 2, 2003 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Deputy Phil Owens who died in the line of duty today.
When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.
