Right before Jason Tye Pratt rode off to what would be his final call, he shouted, "Let's get it on!" It was with that kind of enthusiasm and vigor that he performed his duties. He went out of this world doing what he truly wanted to do. I'm sorry we couldn't have helped you more.

Tye,

On 9-9-96 you came into my life. It was the first day of our academy. We spent the next 21 weeks in a very small classroom where I got to know you and you became a friend. That friendship grew out on the street where I learned of the house that you were remodeling and the family you were starting. Though our career paths kept us apart for months at time I never doubted that I would not see my buddy Tye again and we would share many more stories and laughs again.

On 9-11-03 I got a call at home stating that you were shot and critically injuried. My heart broke instantly. Over the next week I met your family and the indivdual who sold you your house. That same house we had so many talks about. It made me smile to be able to share that with someone who understood.

On 9-19-03 you lost your fight and I lost my friend. Our class forever lost its leader and so did the OPD community.
Stacy, my prayers are with you and know that Tye will never be forgotten.

To the Pratt Family. I knew Jason by chatting a few times with him in the streets while he was on patrol. He was a wonderful person and I considered him a friend the first time we meet. He was a wonderful man and I bet he was a great husband and father. I will never forget how much he touched my life those few total hours I chatted with him. Rest in peace my friend until we meet again. You will not be forgotten

Officer Tye, we will miss you on the streets of our city. Thank you for protecting our family as well as the thousands of others you protected day in and day out. You have beautiful girls, that look just like their daddy. Omaha will never let them forgot their daddy, and what he means to everyone. We had another tradgey on 9/11. I hoped nothing bad would ever happen on that day...and something did...and then you went on to your final sleep on my daughters birthday. It will be a day our family will not forgot. Thank you. and god bless Stacy and the girls.

I send this, to honor Jason Pratt and all of the men and women of law
enforcement, who put their lives on the line everyday, to help make our
world a safer place. And to Stacy: I have 2 brothers and a brother-in-law
on the Omaha Police Department, so although I do not know you
personally, I feel as if we are family. My deepest sympathy goes out to
you and your daughters. God Bless you all.

Poem For Officers
There was a touching poem inside programs handed out at the funeral of
Sgt. Jason Pratt Tuesday, written by Steve Staskiewicz.

They're mothers and fathers
They're husbands and wives
Ensuring our safety while risking their lives.

We send them to work
With a kiss or embrace
And try not to think of the dangers they face.

They're brothers and sisters
They're daughters and sons
Who serve and protect wearing badges and guns.

We know of the honor
And courage they hold
It shows in their lives and the stories they've told.

They're nieces and nephews
They're neighbors and friends
On whose dedication our safety depends.

They ask nothing more
Of the ones they protect
Than courtesy, trust and a little respect.

They're everyday people
Enforcing our laws
They really are heroes who fight for our cause.

Remember these heroes
You see every day
Remember the ones who were taken away.
