Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Andrew John Mazur

You are Citadel Men, you have no pension for failure, you wear the Ring, you never let a friend down, you will be good fathers, husbands, and leaders in the armed forces and industry, you are strong in heart, body, and mind. You protect such things as Honor and Fidelity. Your virtues will matter ... you are the last of the knights.

dear Drew,

I know that you are still around - I can feel you watching over us, smiling down to us.

I can still NOT believe that you have left us and cherish the moments we could share with each other.
It was such an amazing time.

God bless you,

Love L.

Just thinking of you and your family on this sad day. I know you are still with them in your own way. Continue helping them get through every day. Help them take things one day at a time. You will never be forgotten.

My thoughts and prayers are with you today. God Bless you!

Today I celebrate 2 years in Law Enforcement, yet today we are reminded of your senseless death 2 years ago. Although we never met, I started my career just a few counties away with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. I had the opportunity to train this past March with the Greenville County Bloodhound Tracking Team, many of your friends spoke highly of not just your service, but your life. I am reminded of the quote at the Law Enforcement Memorial Wall, "Its not how these officers died that made them heroes, its how they lived their lives." after meeting your fellow Deputies, I know this statement applies your life and your committment. I continue to wear your rememberance bracelet, and pray daily that I will bring nothing but honor, integrity, and courage to my job, just as you did.
Words can not begin to deminish the pain I am sure that your friends and family felt that day, or will feel for the rest of their lives. But, I do pray daily that God continue to bless them with the memories they have of you.
May God Bless your family, as well as all the brothers who have taken the watch, rest in peace, and maybe I will get to meet you one day.

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.

Today, August 17, 2005 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Deputy Sheriff Andrew John Mazur who died in the line of duty on this date two years ago.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Deputy Mazur's sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Drew,
I went to the National Law Enforcement Memorial yesterday. When I went into the welcome center, I saw your etching in a display. Out of the 17,000 names on the wall, yours was the one randomly picked to put on display to show a etching holder. I started to cry. My kids were a little tired and cranky and I began to lose my temper. Then I felt a calm presence.. I knew you were telling me to have patience.

I will see you again when Christ has the roll call for all of us.

May God Bless your family always and forever....

Drew,
You have faced the greatest challenges head on. As a Cid Grad, I know your challenges were many. As a Guard, they were more intense. As a grad you chose a significant challenge in law enforcment.

Your final challenge was met directly. You stood your ground and fought for what is right. You met this challenge as a Cid Grad should, without fear and with GREAT courage.

"Give me a boy, Oh God, who is wiling to learn the true value of honor, the necessity of perseverence and loyalty, and the meaningfulness of devotion to God and country. And I shall take this boy as does a blacksmith take a crude piece of metal, and place him over a forge whose liberating flame of education is fired by the bellows of strict military discipline. Into this ingot of a man I shall temper self-respect and self-discipline, fear of God and respect for mankind, appreciation of freedom and awareness of what sacrifices must be made to preserve freedom, and above all an insatiable desire for truth and honesty. And when all these things I have done, I shall brand my finished work with a ring of gold to let all of humanity know that I have given back to the world
a ...Citadel Man"

You sir are a true Citadel Man..I can only hope that when I look at my ring and put on my gun belt, I can have the courage you did. I pray that I can live up to your expectation..

God Speed Fellow Grad, Brother Deputy, and most importantly Brother in Christ..

I never knew you Andrew, but I feel a closeness to you, for the day you were taken from the ranks of the best, i joined the ranks, I began my work as a Sheriff's Deputy on August 17, 2003. I ordered a remeberance bracelet with your name and department and End of Watch Date on it. I got it as a reminder of that day, a day a great deputy was taken from us, and as a reminder to me that there are some big shoes to fill. You will always be with me, and everytime i look at your name on my wrist, i will be reminded of what you did for your fellow man. Drew,
Years later your picture still hangs in my apartment. Every day I think about what happened and how it has affected so many of us. it was surreal to see your name on the memorial in Washington. I occasionally walk up to Capers 410 where we used to have our meetings. I am reminded of how we all talked about our plans and how we were going to be cops. Everytime I see the Summerall Guards I am reminded that you were one of my biggest supporters during training. Most importantly, everytime I put on my uniform and head to work, I think about what can happen. We are all better people for having known you. You have in the past and continue to look after us. Godspeed, we'll see you again.

Again, we sit at NAC on a cold rainy night, like we did several times before. We still miss you. Riverside is still Riverside, Poe Mill is still Poe Mill. The only things changed are the ROOKIES. None have the "Go-Get-Em" you had.... most people don't. You were one of a kind.

Dedication to the Fallen Officer

A million times we've missed you, A million times we've cried.
If love could have saved you, You never would have died.
Things we feel most deeply, Are the hardest things to say.
Our dearest one, we have loved you In a very special way.
We often sit and think of you And think of how you died.
To think we couldn't say good-bye Before you closed your eyes.
No one can know our loneliness And no one can see us weeping,
All our tears from aching hearts While others are still sleeping.
If we had one lifetime wish, A dream that could come true,
We'd pray to God with all our hearts For yesterday and you.

I know you're better place
Even though I can't see your face,
I know you're smiling down on us saying everything is ok.
We wish that we could hold you now and tell you that we miss you.
We will miss you Drew. Thank you for watching over us and protecting us.
