Steve, Rest in Peace
We will miss your happy hello's, warm smile and caring way's! You always looked out me, my family and the rest of Lake L.A.; For many of us this is a difficult time, but we will not let you or your memory fade, we will carry on the tasks you undertook to make our community better. To all those officers who protected us, who helped find this scumbag, Thank You! You spent many hours in the desert heat day and night, tirelessly searching for Steve's killer and as good as your word, you brought this individual to justice!

The urgent calling of nature longs to be tested, seeks to be challenged beyond itself. The warrior within us beseeches Mars, the god of War, to deliver us to that crucial battlefield that will redeem us into the terrifying immediacy of the moment. We want to face our Goliath so we may be reminded that the warrior David is alive, in us. We pray to the war gods to guide us to the walls of Jerrico so we may dare the steadfastness and strength of our trumpet call. We aspire to be defeated in battle by powers so much greater than ourselves, so that the defeat itself will have made us larger than when we arrived. We long for the encounter that will ultimately empower us with dignity and honor....Be not mistaken: the longing is there and it's terrible and beautiful and tragic.

Stephen,

May God keep you sheltered and safe. You are home now and although we mourn our loss of you, Heaven is rejoicing the return of its bravest.

I cringe each time I read about another officer's life being taken away. Being related to a fallen officer, I can tell family that sadnes overwhelms you but remember the good. It has only been 1 1/2 months since I lost my brother and the pain is still there. Just remember that all officers are heros. They protect us here and now they protect us from above. Find strength in family and friends. Time will heal. I understand your pain and wish I could hug each and every one of you that has to grieve.

It is with great sadness that we add Stephen Sorensen to the list of officers killed in the line of duty. Our promise to family, friends, and partners is to always remember Stephen in prayer. Know that LAPD always stands ready to help our brother and sister officers at LASD.

God's blessings to all the family
