Reflections for Officer Patrick Martin Maher

God's Grace be with you Brother!

Sergeant
Urbandale Police Department

My heart is heavy. Officer Maher's actions were heroic - he put himself in harms way to protect others. His death was absolutely senseless. While I've felt sorrow when I've heard of other officers deaths, somehow it becomes much more personal when it happens at home.

I never knew Patrick Maher, but because of him and others like him I feel safer and sleep better knowing help is just a phone call away.

Godspeed Officer Maher. My prayers are with your family.

Our prayers and our thoughts are with the loved ones, family, friends that have to bare this burden.
All of our thoughts and prayers from the Support Our Officers WolfPackFamily chat room.
We always ask for everyone to go up to any law enforcement officer or any emergency person, ,paramedic, emt's and say thank you for what you do 24/7 to keep us safe.
We all send love and we are not there in person, but we are all with you in love and spirit and may you all be wrapped in the arms of our Lord to help you through this tragedy.
Heart felt sympathy.
GOD BLESS THE MEN AND WOMEN IN BLUE BECAUSE OF THEM WE CAN LAY OUR HEADS DOWN AT NIGHT AND SLEEP IN PEACE.

To all the family, friends, and extended families(brothers & Sisters in Blue) it is with a heavy heart that I say," Your loved one did not die in vain. This was his calling on earth. He lived, and died, doing what he loved. He is a hero; he saved and protected lives. He will be missed and remembered for his heroism. For our family this is a sad day, knowing that another brave soul has been taken. But we see hope in knowing that he is now on God's patrol, watching over us from above, along with his other brothers and sisters that have gone on before him. There is no greater sacrifice to be given than one's own life, for another.
God Bless and be with Officer P. Maher's loved ones. May he protect those who will continue the Watch.

Dear Officer Maher,

I did not know you but I am devastated for your family, friends and department. I cannot imagine what they are all going through. It angers me that anyone loses their life for doing their job, especially when their job is protecting and serving the citizens of their community. I am the wife of a police officer and I pray each night that my husband comes home to me.

Your family, friends and department are in my thoughts and prayers.

Policeman's Wife, Washington State

Every coworker and family member can be most proud to know that Officer Maher's actions were a true testament of his character. I salute you for your bravery. May you rest in peace in a special place. May your bravery, commitment and sacrifice never be forgotten! My condolences to all of your family and coworkers. AC

“My Badge at Heart”

We band of Brothers and Sisters have fought so very hard
Protected our streets, our people, their homes
Protected the children, the aged and the tired
Protected each other, our brothers and our sisters
We prayed every night and every day since we swore to protect and uphold
God, let us return to those who too are so brave
Our mothers and fathers our brothers and sisters
God let me once again hold my wife, my sons and my daughters
Allow me to picnic with my family, celebrate a wedding, and sing happy birthday
God, please let me live to teach my sons to play catch and to watch my daughters dance
Please let me grow old with love, compassion, and strength
But most of all God, if you need me to lay down my life for another
Please, please tell my family, my loved ones, and my friends
I died not in vain, I sought no heroics
I died doing what I was proud to do
I died being who I was proud to be
I died, my badge at heart

Dedicated to all Blue Angels and their families

Even thou I never had the chance to meet Officer Patrick Maher, he wore the same uniform as I. When I hear of a brother officer dieing, it saddens me. When you think you can’t give anymore, you find the strength to go on. For, it’s people like you, me & Ofc. Maher who strive to stand above all, to make a difference. To stand and fight, knowing that you could lose your life, attempting to make that slight difference in someone’s life. There are so many people who will never understand why such a person is / was willing to give the ultimate sacrifice. Those of use who ware the uniform and those who knew Ofc. Maher, fully understand. Rest in peace Ofc. Maher, your time for rest has come. Someday, I shall meet you and we will swap stories.

Officer RJ Ely
Skagway Police Department

Godspeed Officer Maher. You've served your time not only to your community but to the nation serving the Coast Guard. Rest in comfort knowing your brothers and sisters will take it from here.

Deputy Holthaus
Kootenai County Sheriff's Dept, CDA, ID. & 2122nd MP Det, Ft Lewis

Please remember the fallen officers we have lost. Remember the men and women who died trying to make this world a safer and better place for us all to live in. Thank you Officer Maher for a job well done. Please continue to watch over us and protect us as only you can. You will forever be at our side and in our hearts.

For those of you who still have loved ones with us please take the time to tell them how much you appreciate and care about them.

IF I KNEW

If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.

There will always be another day
to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,

That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear

Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

REST IN PEACE BROTHER. YOUR SACRIFICE WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN. MAY GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILY.

POLICE OFFICER
NYPD 44 PCT

I was stationed with Pat at Coast Guard Station Beach Haven, NJ, 18 years ago. I was 19 years old at the time and Pat taught me many lessons about life and the Coast Guard that I have been able to pass on to many junior members. My deepest sympathy go to his wife and family.

BMC Mike Flannery
United States Coast Guard

My deepest sympathy to Officer Maher's family and friends and the the Federal Way Department in which Officer Maher served.
I just happened to be visiting in that area when this occured and happened to see about it on the TV. It brought back bad memories of another officer killed in the line of duty only 2 months ago, my nephew, who had almost same thing happen to him. In his situation, he also was killed with his own duty weapon. It is all too real and happens too often and something needs to be done. Another hero has been taken from us left on earth, to watch over us from above.
To his surviving family and friends, it hurts all those left behind and will seem like the hurt will never end, but be assured that your officer is surely in heaven and standing watch from up above.
Sincerely,
Kerri
