I just read a reflection left for a Plainville, MA Officer with the last name of Maher. The reflection was left by a citizen of Washington State who referenced you, Officer Maher. I had to look you up.
First off, you showed great courage and it's apparent, you lived your entire life putting yourself in harms for the sake of others.
Secondly, I have to admire the brother of your murderer. No doubt in my mind he knew what the right thing to do was and did it, in spite of it being his own brother he was restraining and sending to jail.
Third, my hat is off to the Kent Police for such a quick response. Though your life was not saved, the valiant response not only got you help quicker, but probably saved other lives since the murderer could have broken free.
Lastly, my heart is breaking at the thought of your son passing so soon after you. No doubt your family was devastated at the loss of you, but to have that pain compounded in such a depressing way is mind boggling.
Did God see the need to reunite you two so soon. Only you and he know the answer to that.
I hope and pray that the grief has lessened in the 12 years since these tragic events, though I'm sure the pain is still a dull ache for all who knew and loved you, Brother.
God Bless, may your peaceful rest be eternal and thank you from the bottom of my heart for your service.

Think of you often and miss you. Your family is growing and there is much to be proud of as Ryan graduates as a firefighter in the USAF. -- we know, not Navy or Coast Guard, but there is water in the hose, right?? He will serve and protect. Continue to watch over us as we remember you.

Pat, hardly a day goes by when I don't think of you. You were such a great colleague and mentor, and a wonderful friend through good times and bad. I'll never forget your calm in a crisis. Sleep peacefully, my friend.

Hi Pat,
I spent yesterday with your sister and accidentally participated in a ride-along with her. She is awesome. Just like you.
We know it was you behind our day.
I am grateful for your service and the inspiration you provided to Mary. I wish I could have known you. She is very proud of you.
RIP - I will never forget you.

Ten years ago today - a day I will never forget. Thank you for serving our community and keeping us safe. Renee continues to be so very amazing, and she works so hard on behalf of our first responders. And Nick, wow - he's an amazing young man who just celebrated his 15th birthday. You would be so proud of both of them.
You are not forgotten.

Just the day before he was murdered, I got to work with you Pat. We "talked" via MDC pretty much all shift, and got to crack each other up. I can't believe it's been 10 years already. I remember the phone call to be told about what had happened to you. We never met, but I will never forget you. Rest in perfect peace.

I cannot believe you have been gone for 10 years tomorrow and Nathan 10 years in January. I know you are in a great place but losing you and Nathan rocked the family to the core. Here is what I know we have all paid it forward in one way or the other for the kindness shown by the Federal Way Police Department and the kindness they continue to show through these years. I know many of us have become very involved in COPS to help families that are coming in behind us. I know bridges have been mended but unfortunately not all. The family will celebrate you tomorrow - coast to coast; we love you and you are forever in our hearts!

I was Pat's recruit school instructor at the Honolulu Police Department. He was a great student, always applying himself and helping others. He was always smiling and in good nature. After graduating he became a good friend. I can still see and hear him in my memories when I think back.

Officer Maher, thank you so much for your service. You are a genuine hero. You are in my heart always.
I met your sister recently. She is also a true hero, not only because she is also a police officer, but because she helps survivors like me.
Please rest in peace and know that you will never be forgotten.
