Our hearts go out to all of you. It has been 11 months since we lost one of Ours. Our Deputy Morris Taylor was shot & killed on the job (EOW 09-14-2002). It is one of those things that you know if a possibility but, dread never the less.

We watched the Memorial Service on TV with Pride & Saddness. It was a Beautiful Service.

We know Patrick Maher is up there and looking over all of us along with the others who have gone before. I know Their Wings Fit Them All Perfectly!!!

May God Bless All Our Law Enforcement Officers!
Protect & Keep Them Safe!!!

It was an honor to serve with Pat here at HPD. It is not often that you get to meet and work with people of your mindset. He made work enjoyable and made the concerns of the day less difficult. I can only say that heaven is richer today because of him. To his family and co-workers in Federal Way, all of us have lost a very special and dear friend. Let us continue in the manner that he would, with pride and conviction. mahalo and aloha to all of you.

Yesterday, 8/7/03, I attended the funeral of my brother officer, Patrick Maher. His was not the first officer whose funeral I've attended. I pray it will be the last, but as we all know, there always be another. For the first time in my law enforcement career (both sworn and civilian), I experienced a full and complete department stand-down. At midnight on Wednesday night, outside agency personnel took over our patrol and records duties while we mourned and prepared to say goodbye to a treasured friend and fellow officer. If you work for a large department and have never experienced a stand-down, words cannot describe it. Nor are there enough words to thank those who came to our aid, supported us, and took care of our city while we mourned. To all of those officers and civilian personnel, Thank You! I am overwhelmed. To all of our wonderful volunteers, the local businesses, and the civilians who tended to our needs and helped us through this loss, Thank You! To all who left flowers and gifts at the memorial site where Ofcr Maher was shot, Thank You. And Thank You Officer Patrick Maher, for the gift of your courage, your friendship, your service, and most of all your beautiful big smile. You will be very much missed. You taught us a lot in a very short time. Rest easy, my brother. We have the watch.

To my friend and former partner,

Pat "Grandpa" Maher, 1C660

Pat, my friend, your time in this world was too short. I will truely miss all times that we worked and partied together. You were the one that took me under your wing when I first arrived in the district and taught me what I needed to do to in a new district and working with new people. You were an inspriation to me and I will never forget it. For everything that we went through you were always there, at every fight and every case, you were one never to back down nor leave anyone in trouble.

You will be missed my friend and my brother in blue. To Renee and family, my deepest sympathy, you will always be a part of the HPD Family. If you should ever need anything you know how to reach us.

To the family and friends of Pat,

While working at HPD, I would only see Pat in passing but never had the chance to meet him. I knew of his name but never really had the chance to meet him. But during a training class a few months ago, Pat told me that he was from HPD and it was like I knew him for years. Pat was telling me that he was happy and looking forward to his time in Washington State.
I was shocked and saddened when I heard the news of my brother in blue from our HPD Ohana. I looked over to my wife, who never met Pat, had tears running down her face. I was in disbelief that this could happen to a good man like Pat, words can't explain how I feel right now.
My deepest condolences go out to the Maher family and his fellow Federal Way officers.

With deepest sympthy,

Deputy S. Kajihiro

Dear colleagues,
I was so sorry to hear of the death of Patrick Maher. He’ll be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. I always think that Patrick must have been the origin of the saying ‘If you want something done give it to a police man’. He was always ready to help anyone and so generous with his care and concern. I will never forget the time when we worked together in 1999 during that police exchange programme.
I am remembering him - knowing that he was such a special person and how much he’ll be missed. Take care of yourself and let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

With sympathy

Officer Maher;

I am sorry that you are gone. I never met you, however somehow it has been comforting reading all the stores from your fellow officers that you worked with.

You will never be forgotten, I will always remember your name, and your story when I begin my career in Law Enforcement.

Sorry to hear of the loss of Off Maher. I lived in Federal Way for a two years before returning to my home state of AL.
My prayers are with the family and fellow officers.

Sgt Darin Clifton
Alabama DCNR Enforcement

I was just beginning to know Pat at FWYPD. He always had a smile and a pleasant word even though his, as all the other officers, is a thankless job.
I think of the men I work with as my sons and daughters and take them all into my heart and understand the frustration they go through daily.
So here is a thought for Patrick's family and all the fine police officers today:

I said a prayer for you today and know god must have heard
I felt the answer in my heart, although he spoke no work
I didn’t ask for wealth or fame I knew you wouldn’t mind
I asked him to send treasures of far more lasting kind
I asked that he be near you in all things great and small
But it was for his loving care I prayed for most of.

God speed Patrick Maher, you will be missed by many

Rest in peace brother. We have the watch now.

Dear Warrior, I'm sadened to know that we have lost another officer in the line of duty. But, you did what you do because you chose it. You chose to walk the thin blue line between warrior and servant and we are grateful for your sacrifice. May God provide your family with swift closure in their loss, and to yourself, swift winds to your next assignment in heaven, as you walk those streets under his command. A huge reward is awaiting you. In the meantime, please watch over us and the remaining peace officers that will continue the watch in your absence. Goodnight sir.

I am not a police officer.. I am a citizen whom doesn't even live in Federal Way any longer (Renton, WA) but I grew up in Federal Way and my deepest sympathies go out to Officer Patrick Maher's family & friends, as well as his brothers on the force.
It is such a sad, sad thing to see such a wonderful police officer and man lose his life. Knowing he died in one of the most noble ways does little to console but he will always be remembered and admired. And the connection between the community and the police force that has formed and strengthened since Sat. Aug. 2nd 2003 is a valuable result of such a tragic event.
Please remember your neighbors & community are behind you!! Stay strong and thank you for sharing your hero with your community.
Love,
