Reflections for Detective Chaney Joseph Champagne

Chaney,
It's a year today since God called you home. I miss you so much and wish this was a nightmare I would awake from. But I finally realized wanting you back is selfish. We all belong to the LORD and I am very blessed for him lending you to me as a brother. You will always live in my heart. I know he is in control and when he is ready he will call each of us home and we will all be together again. You were not only a brother to me you were also one of my five Dad's. I am very thankfull for Jesus allowing me to spend so much time with you and Myra before he called the two of you home.

I LOVE AND MISS YOU.

Chaney-Chew,

I miss you very much. I know that you would have been the greatest uncle to Ethan and Mallory. You always told me that I would be a mommy someday, you told me not to give up, and bam Double Wammy. I know that God, You and Myra had something to do with our double blessing. I will never forget you as you will continue to live in our hearts and minds. Love you and miss you.

ONE RAINY DAY IN JULY, GOD CALLED YOU HOME. I WAS NOT READY TO LET YOU GO SO SOON. THE PAIN, THE GRIEF,MY HEART WAS BROKEN,. WHEN YOU SAID 'BYE MOM I LOVE YOU.' THOSE WERE OUR LAST WORDS SPOKEN. WHEN YOU TOOK THE OATH TO PROTECT AND TO SERVE, THOSE WERE NOT JUST IDLE WORDS.YOUR LEGACY WILL LIVE THROUGH THE YEARS. OH,IF I COULD STOP MY TEARS. A PART OF ME DIED THAT DAY,WHAT A PRICE I HAD TO PAY.IKNOW THE LORD KNOWS BEST. FAREWELL MY SON YOU'VE PASSED THE TEST. LOVE YOU FOREVER. MOM

It's been 5 months since God called you and Woody home. I know you are there with Myra looking over us here. You were a wonderful person and colleague. I learned a lot form you and Woody, and you guys are truly missed. Rest in peace, my friend.

Chaney was a very unique person. He was never fake, another words he was not a follower. He always stood up for what he believed in no matter the circumstances. He was an excelent detective it was in his heart. When he was around I always felt safe. There is not a day that goes by with out me thinking of him. He could always put a smile on my face. I miss him so much it hurts. I am thankful for the Lord taking him home to be with Myra. I know that is what Chaney wanted. I will cherish the time I spent with him. And never forget what I learned from him which is to be yourself and always stand up for what you believe in. That is what makes you a leader not a follower. To all officers ,Thanks. You all do not get the credit you deserve. It takes an elite group of people to choose this profession.

To the Champagne family you truly know the depth of our loss but know our loved ones are looking down on us. Chaney with wide brim sunglasses and Kurt (Woody) in those snazzy suspenders wondering what all the fuss is about. Now may God take care of our heros. God bless all of you and our thoughts and prayers are with you.

A Hero's Wings

My God give us the grace, to deal with the loss
Of these precious lives, so heavy the cost
Public servants, a job they were meant to do
They paid the ultimate price, to protect me and you

As a community together, we feel the pain
Of missing two officers, lost in the rain
Each in his own way, touched so many
For their dedication, the gratitude runs plenty

I bow my head, a tear falls down my face
Would I have been so brave, in their place?
It hurts a lot, I've been at a loss for words
Ever since, the tragic news I've heard

I pray for the families, hurting inside
I wish I could wipe away, the tears you've cried
May God ease your pain, and comfort your mind
That the good memories, in your hearts you find

Dear Father my prayers, from a earnest heart
I can almost see it, as the Pearly gates do part
Up in Heaven, the angels begin to sing
As two officers, are given a Hero's Wings

Dedicated to, Kurt "Woody" Harrelson and Chaney Champagne

Everything happens for a reason. We are not to question. Life is very short so we must live everyday to the fullest. That is what Chaney did!
He loved his wife, family and friends. I am glad I had the opportunity to speak with Chaney a few weeks before this tragic accident. I share

Dear Warrior, I'm sadened to know that we have lost another officer in the line of duty. But, you did what you do because you chose it. You chose to walk the thin blue line between warrior and servant and we are grateful for your sacrifice. May God provide your family with swift closure in their loss, and to yourself, swift winds to your next assignment in heaven, as you walk those streets under his command. A huge reward is awaiting you. In the meantime, please watch over us and the remaining peace officers that will continue the watch in your absence. Goodnight sir.
