In honor of Officer Doug Wendel's selfless-service to his city and nation, an American flag will fly over Camp America, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba on August 1, 2003. I will bring this flag home with me to give to his fiance when I return to Richmond in October.

On behalf of all the police officers here in Cuba serving as soldiers in our nation's War on Terror, I extend my condolences to his family and loved ones. As soldiers, we honor a warrior fallen. As cops, we mourn a brother lost.
