Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Douglas Edward Wendel

Doug-
A brave man cut down by cowards. Justice will be swift and certain. Thanx for teaching a young buck a few things and not blowing the smoke of your ever present cigarette in my face. You have fought the good fight and the badge has gained new luster by your life.

I can't imagine what it's going to be like not hearing your very "distinctive" voice on the other side of that radio anymore! I have no doubt that the incredible men and women of RPD will bring the animal responsible for this to justice. I am proud to have known you and will miss you very much. God grant you peace and give strength and comfort to those you have left behind.

I knew Douglas from the day he was hired and was very impressed with his dedication and love for the job. The world lost one of the good guys when he was gunned down by one of the scum of the earth. Rest in peace, because you have done your time in hell.

In honor of Officer Doug Wendel's selfless-service to his city and nation, an American flag will fly over Camp America, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba on August 1, 2003. I will bring this flag home with me to give to his fiance when I return to Richmond in October.

On behalf of all the police officers here in Cuba serving as soldiers in our nation's War on Terror, I extend my condolences to his family and loved ones. As soldiers, we honor a warrior fallen. As cops, we mourn a brother lost.
