Reflections for Corrections Officer John Murphy Bennett

Thanks for being there dad, you were always there to help me. You were an awesome father who understood me.
I love you and miss you. I will see you in Heaven.

John M. Bennett, II

John left behind alot of people who loved him and will miss him. He will never be forgotten! I pray that his family finds peace and knows that John will be with them forever.

I didn't know Officer John Bennett at all, but I do know his wife and family. He has great kids, and a wonderful wife. They are a great Christian family. I have no answers as to why this happened, but I do know we can all be there to help the family thru this time of loss.

John loved his family - his sons were the light of his life. He was so very proud of their accomplishments while making sure they walked the straight and narrow. He loved his beautiful wife and all his family. So much wasted time between us and what I would give for him to be here and remove the pain that your family is going through but I know he will watch over Karen, the three boys and the entire family for eternity. Those of us remaining will do our best to help them make their way through this difficult time. Keep the camcorder charged and the game going! I'll bring the bread.

Sister in Law

John's legacy lives on through us all. By our actions, by our prayers and by our thoughts. John has grabbed our hearts and lives in them now. This will only make us stronger and better people because John can live inside all of us. He rests because of a noble cause and will forever be in our thoughts. Love You! See You Soon!

Brandon Collins - Son

I would like to send my condolences to John Bennett's family. John's youngest sister, Katie, is one of my closest and dearest friends. I did not know John well, but had the pleasure of being around him several times over the years. I know by the many wonderful things that were said about John at his memorial service that he was loved and respected by many. I believe the true reflection of a person is their children and John's boys (all three of them) are very well mannered, polite young men. I believe John raised them to be such respectful gentlemen and I know in talking with Katie they all appreciate the guidance and love he gave them over the years. I hope John's family takes comfort in knowing he is with his Lord and Savior and watching over them.

Officer John Bennett, was a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a uncle, and a friend. John will be missed very much. He was a wonderful person. Yeah he had high standards and he was hard on us at times but he did it because he wanted the best for the people he loved! For those of you that don't know who I am, I'm John's youngest sister. There are 4 of us siblings. There is 15 years difference in our age but I liked it because he was kinda like a second father to me. He was very protective of me and made that very clear! John was always happy and loved to play pratical jokes on people. I remember when I was a little girl and he used to call me a "poo-poo bafoon" and that would make me cry and I would tell Dad on him and he would get into trouble! Boy I ate that up! I used to get so aggravated at him because let's face it I'm just too sensitive but now I'm sure going to miss him picking on me. John was a WONDERFUL father. He loved his kids and if he had to work 1 or 2 side jobs other than his job at TDCJ then he would to provide for his family. He was very involved in there lives and there activities. John was a proud man and he showed it. He was so sure of life and I hope that we all can learn to be as proud as he was and embrace our family. I want to thank you all for your wonderful prayers and I want you all to know they mean so much to our family! John I want you to know that we will miss you every moment of every day but I know that you are sitting beside us cheering us on! John I promise to take care of Mom, Karen, and the boys. I won't be as good as you but I will do my best to make sure they are taken care of! Rest in peace big brother! Love always, Katiebugs

My Brother-In-Law, John Bennett, will be missed so much by all his family and friends! He was a wonderful person with a very kind heart. My Sister and their three Sons have lost someone they will never be able to replace because John loved them all with ALL HIS HEART! John also loved his Job and did it well. One night not to long ago, John and I had a long talk about what he did for a living and why it was so important to him, it touched my heart. I will never forget the fun times we had together, the long talks and just being with him. John was a good friend to me and my Husband and a great Uncle to my three Girls. We MISS him so much but know he is in Heaven and will meet him there someday.

I am very saddened to hear of the untimely loss of Officer Bennet. This underscores the grim reality that despite TV depictions of epic gunbattles, motor vehicles continue to claim life after life of good officers. It is so unfortunate to lose a fine officer who had many fine years ahead of him.

I pray for his family, friends and colleagues. He died serving a noble calling. He now stands a post in Heaven with St. Michael. God Bless and be safe.
