There are but two persons who protect the sinful human race from destroying itself. One is God's Holy Spirit. The other is the Peace Officer. Without them, we would all perish at each other's hands.
You were called into this profession and our Lord and Savior has blessed you because:
According to Romans 13.1-5...
God ordains the Peace Officer’s profession.
The Peace Officer is sent by God.
The Peace Officer is vested with God's authority to enforce the law.
A Peace Officer's badge is to be honored by us, because it is honored by God.
You gave the ultimate sacrifice, your life for your fellow man, while serving, defending, and protecting others in your community.
To the family of Trooper Kevin Marshall and the Michigan State Police, your extended family of Law Enforcement Officers grieves with you during this time. I pray that God will wrap his loving arms around each of you and comfort you during this most difficult time.
To all my brothers and sisters, please remember the fallen officers we have lost. Remember the men and women who died trying to make this world a safer and better place for us all to live in.
May God be with you every day, please remember, we are a part of the largest family in the world and when one hurts we all hurt.
Though our badges and uniforms may be different, our mission is the same. Rest in peace with our other fallen Brothers and Sisters. We will continue the fight in your honor.

Our sympathy goes out to the family, friends and co-workers of Trooper Kevin Marshall.
The loss of a brother Law Enforcement Officer is a painful experience for us all, but to his wife and children it is a tragedy that will alter their existence. Please know, that you have been part of our Law Enforcement family since Kevin pinned on his star. You are, and always will be our family, and we will be here for you whenever you need us. No matter where you are in this Nation- just call, 911 if you have to, and we'll be there. Kevin will watch over you from heaven, and we will help you here.
The thin blue line is walked upon daily by men and women who, whether wearing a star, a badge or a shield have vowed to lay their life down if necessary. When evil treads on our line- we stand fast so that society will be protected by our shield. This Nation has suffered the loss of another TRUE HERO. We cry, we mourn and WE WILL NEVER FORGET!
We'll finish the watch Kevin, you Rest In Peace.
Sergeant John Doherty
Chicago Police Department
To the family of Kevin and the entire Troops of the Michigan State Police I want to send my condolences on the loss of a Brave and respectable troop of this state. I also send this along to the Newaygo Post. A coward has taken a life of a good father, and trooper may he suffer his consequences of the action he committed.
A retired troop once told me this.
"Michigan Troopers leave the job, they are upstairs keeping peace in the golden highway."
Kevin you died for a cause, one that shouldn't have ended your life.
I wish the family the best and my prayers will be with you.

It was once said that every law enforcement officer working a beat, has an angel on their shoulders; an angel of a police officer from a time before.
As an Officer serves others and defends what is true, their angel stands by helping to guide, to teach, and to protect them, while they protect others.
Trooper Marshall's death is a terrible tragedy. But he like all Officers who have gone before him, has been called upon to serve a greater purpose. He has been called to teach, to guide, to protect and to serve; Trooper marshall has been called to be an angel.
My condolences go out to the family of this brave soul, and I pray that Trooper Marshall continues to work his beat in the streets of heaven, watching over myself and all Police Officers who choose to make a difference; who choose to defend what is right, and who make the ultimate sacrifice to protect the freedom of this great nation.
May you rest in peace dear brother. You will be greatly missed.

My fiance, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Kevin be the be the last to die this way.
Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Trooper Marshall's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through this tough time, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you.
Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that Kevin is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain Kevin was well respected and well loved. Thank you for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please take care of my fiance Dennis.
Peace, Love, Luck, and Happiness!

When God made Police Officers.......
When the Lord was creating police officers, he was into his sixth day of overtime when an angel appeared and said, "You're doing a lot of fiddling on this one?"
And the Lord said, "Have you read the spec on this order?"
"A police officer has to be able to run five miles through alleys in the dark, scale walls, enter homes the health inspector wouldn't touch, and not wrinkle is uniform."
"He has to be able to sit in an undercover car all day on a stakeout, cover a homicide scene that night, canvass the neighborhood for witnesses, and testify in court the next day."
"He has to be in top phyiscal condition at all times, running on black coffee and half-eaten meals. And he has to have six pairs of hands."
The angel shook her head slowly and said, "Six pairs of hands...no way."
"Its not the hands that are causing me problems, "said the Lord, "its the three pairs of eyes an officer has to have."
"Thats on the standard model?" asked the angel.
The Lord nodded. One pair that sees through a bulge in a pocket before he asks, "May I see what's in there, sir? (When he already knows and wishes he'd taken the accounting job.) Another pair in the side of his head for his partners' safety. And another pair of eyes here in the front that that can look reassuring at a bleeding victim and say, "You'll be all right ma'am, when he knows it isn't so."
"Lord,"said the angel, touching his sleeve, "rest and work on this tomorrow."
"I can't" said the Lord, "I already have a model that can talk a 250 pound drunk into a patrol car without incident and feed a family of five on a civil service paycheck."
The angel circled the model of the police office very slowly, Can it think?" she asked.
"You bet." said the Lord. "It can tell you the elements of a hundred crimes: recite Miranda warnings in it's sleep" detain, investigate, search, and arrest a gang member on the street in less time it takes five learned judges to debate the legality of the stop...and still keeps its sense of humor.
"This officer also has phenomenal personal control. He can deal with crime scenes painted in hell, coax a confession from a child abuser, comfort a murder vicitm's family, and then read in the daily paper how law enforcement isn't sensative to the rights of criminal suspects."
Finally, the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek of the police officer. "There's a leak," she pronounced. "I told you that you were trying to put too much into this model."
"Thats not a leak," said the Lord, "its a tear."
"What's the tear for?" asked the angel.
"Its for bottled-up emotions, for fallen comrades, for commitment to that funny piece of cloth called the American flag, for justice."
"You're a genius," said the angel.
The Lord looked somber. "I didn't put it there," he said.
