Reflections for Trooper Kevin Michael Marshall
To my #1:
Little did we know that day, God would call your name. In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you. You did not go alone. For part of us went with you the day God called you home.
You left us beautiful memories, your love is still our guide. And though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same. But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.
I can't believe it's been a year already since you left us. My heart is broken and will never be the same. I miss your smile, your laughter, but most of all YOU.
Til we meet again.
With love and pride,
Mom

Kevin,
It has been a year since you were tragically taken from this world. I still can't believe it. I think about You, Angie and the Kids often. I still remember stopping at the Newaygo Post to visit you and share a few laughs.
May God bless You and your Family. Rest in peace my friend, you are definitely missed.

Kevin:
I have dreamed of being a Michigan State Trooper since as far back as I can remember. Individuals like yourself who serve with honor and professionalism are the heart and soul of this profession. I wish I could of met you. I hope that if I become a MSP trooper that I reflect your abilities. You gave the ultimate sacrifice. You are true hero Trooper Marshall.
To Kevin's family:
I prey you have found peace with the loss of Kevin, the world lost a real hero.

KEVIN,
I remember the day of your funeral. I wanted to be there sooooo badly but couldn't because I had to work. I thought about you and your family all day. I was driving back from Kent County and saw many many Police Cars. I knew they were coming back from giving tribute to you.
You gave your life in such a dignified way. You were protecting the citizens of Michigan from a predator. No one could predict what happened. You are bigger than life to me.
I pray for your family often. I hope you are enoying your assignment patroling the Highways of heaven, helping St. Michael to keep our Lords home safe.
Watch over us brother, and be with us.

I often visit this website after the death of two dear friends from the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003).
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Trooper Marshall. I am deeply saddened to see the death of another very young man. From the reflections written about Trooper Marshall, it is obvious that he was a wonderful man and trooper.
These are senseless occurrences that continue to happen. I hope you find some comfort in knowing that there are many prayers going out for your family.
Thank you so much to the men and women who continue to serve their communities and this great Nation. God Bless You.

Kevin, and family
I think of you everyday, soon the TEAM will be gathering again and the deep wound of you not being with us will be ever present and painful. The TEAM will never be whole again. Things will never be the same. I look at your picture on my office wall daily and reflect on why things happen the way they do. The answer is always the same. Many questions, no answers. I have faith and pray everyday for your family and friends and teammates. The TEAM will go foward but not without you Kevin. Please continue to be with us in spirit and stand by our side through the battles still to come.
May God bless you Kevin and watch over your family because as you know they are precious.
Your friend, teammate and fellow warrior.

Dear Uncle Kevin,
I miss you. Emma misses you, too.
You are my hero.
I lost both my front teeth and look like a hockey player.
I wish you were here to see it.
I know you are watching over all of us.
I will never forget you.
We got a new puppy. Her name is Grace. She is very cute. I hope you
can see her.
Love,
Ryley (your favorite Godson!)

THE BROKEN CHAIN
We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone;
for part of us went with you, the day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide;
and though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same;
but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.

Kevin, I met your family today...we belong to the same club. My son, Kevin, was killed in Clare County on Oct. 9. Your mom and I bonded...your sister and wife, and best friend were there, too. It must have been so hard for you to leave. I just want you to know that I care so much, and your mom and I will help each other through this.
May God Bless, and will you keep an eye on Kevin for me?

I have only talked to you a couple times the past couple years, but even though we didn't really know each other, it seemed like we had been friends for years the couple times we talked. You would always have an upbeat "hello" and a smile when I walked into the post and always tried to make everyone feel like they belonged. Three days after your tour of duty ended, I wrote a poem for you, Angie, Danielle, Anthony, Shelley, and the rest of your family and friends. It's called "In the Line of Duty:"
Today was full of sorrow, for someone took a hero from this Earth, someone who
Represented duty, honor, and courage.
One who knew the balance between work, family and self.
One who maximized his potential as an urban soldier, went to work every day and saw things citizens could only imagine.
Performing his sometimes horrific duties only to come home with a smile on his face and a kiss for his loving family. He is the
Epitome of a great father, husband, friend, and trooper.
Respected by his community, friends, and fellow troopers and officers, mourned by an indispensable brotherhood that only few understand.
you will always be missed Kevin and you are what every officer, including myself, hopes to be...
