Reflections for Trooper Kevin Michael Marshall
Terry~
I think that "worry" and "fear" are very natural feelings to have in anticipating the Academy. I know that it was the hardest thing that Kevin ever went through. To him, it was worth every second....and I'm guessing that it will be the same for you. Believe in yourself and believe that you can do it. Try to enjoy the journey along the way. It is a very special time in your life. You will make lifelong friends. Lean on them when you need to. You WILL get through it. Have faith!!
Best Always~

As the days get closer the more i worry about becoming a trooper.I know that the only one that needs to be impressed is me but there are a couple of guys that are counting on me to make it.There is so much that im scared of in the academy because im not a big guy and it is the hardest things that i will have to do...Well Kevin it's nice chatting with you and i feel that the job after the training is done will be rewarding.....Thank you

Terry,
Let Kevin always inspire you to always do what is right, and enjoy every day as both an officer and a person. I'm sure he'll be there to guide you when you need him.

Hey Kevin, well we just reached our 13th year on 1-15-2008. Nothing makes me more sad then looking on this site and seeing the fallen officers, but most of all seeing you and Ricky. Every time I hear the song "calling all you angels" by TRAIN, (at least I think that is the name of it)I think of you. That was the song that was playing when I heard about you. Keep on watching over us, as you are NEVER forgotten.

Angie, about a month ago I put together some memorial tributes to recognize officers that lost their lives in the line of duty. One of the tributes had several Michigan officers, including Kevin. I'd like to send one of the DVD's to you. If you are interested in receiving it, please email Chris Cosgriff at the ODMP and ask him for my email address. He can tell you how to reach me. Thank you, and my best wishes to your family.

Thinking of you...every time I hear this song I think of Angie and the kids!
I pray for peace
Blessings and honor
Heaven right earth's despair
This is my Christmas prayer
For those that grieve
God will bring comfort
Laughter will rapture there
This is my Christams prayer
See I pray that love will rule and reign
And I pray that time will rid the pain of this world
As we learn to trust and care
This is my Christmas prayer
I pray for you (Yes I know you do)
That your triupmh and conquer
Poses the strength you need to bare
This is my Christmas prayer
For those in need
There would be plenty
And each other's burdens share
Oh, this is my Christmas prayer
See I pray that love will rule and reign
And I pray that time will rid the pain of this world
As we learn to trust and care
This is my Christmas prayer, Oh
So let hope fill our hearts (Let's let hope fill our hearts)
Shine the light through the dark
All around the world
And everywhere
I will pray
This Christmas prayer
See I pray that love will rule and reign
And I pray that time will rid the pain of this world
As we learn to trust and care
This is my Christmas
This is my Christmas prayer
See I pray that love will rule and reign
And I pray that time will rid the pain of this world
As we learn to trust and care
This is my Christmas prayer
This is my Christmas prayer

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Kevin,
I ran in the 4th annual Marshall Run on Sept. 1. That hill kicked my ass, but I made it! Thanks for being an inspiration to me.

Please watch over Emma closely as she has her surgery tomorrow. I'm REALLY nervous about it. She is being such a little "trooper" about having it done. She is the tough one! I miss you every day.

We thought of you all weekend, only to be reminded even more when a GRPD officer ended his watch on Sunday, 7/8/07. The memories of those days came flooding back. Please know that you are constantly with us, through good and bad, and we definitely miss you being here. Keep watching over us and giving us your signs!!!
