You are not forgotten and you live in others that you have inspired. Your story has inspired me to be better than I am every day. Rest in peace.

I asked a Medicine Man why you had to go
And he said, “He’s not gone. He’s still here among us.
Look for his presence in the rainbows,
In the early morning ground fogs,
In the desert slow rainy days”.

“Listen and you will hear his footsteps
In the first dawn lights,
In the last lights before night fall,
In the moon light beam colors”.

“Listen and you hear his laughter
In the new officer’s first day out,
In the officers teaching the new people,
In the officer’s caring and sharing road experiences”.

The Medicine Man said, “He’s not gone. He’s still here.
He is only gone if he is not in your hearts,
Your thoughts and your prayers.
He is part of you, you welcomed him as such”.

It's been so many years but the pain is still difficult. I was just a young Sergeant the time I met you, actually my first duty station and one of the "old guards" I supervised. I was young but learned so much from you guys, which made my job a whole lot easier. You put me to the test and I have stood the time. I know the pain is still felt by your loved ones and I hold them in my prayers. It was a difficult call that I received that fateful day, when we lost one of our own...one of my own, though I was in another district, it still hit close to home to someone I knew as a subordinate but more importantly a friend.

I pray God's blessing upon those you left behind and may their memories never dim but shine in their hearts and love.

I felt you and Roy's presense when I saw your names on the memorial in Washington D.C. I did tell you at the time that it was good to see you guys again and that I did my very best in bringing Justice to those responsible. I know that you were quite a family man who always intended good things for your wife and kids. And now I realize that, that was actually why you were out late that horrible night. You decided to work extra hard for your family! My beliefs are attributed to you today, because I feel I am surviving in your guidance of wisdom. I've come to learn and understand that it was all about your family and your job was secondary! Your love for the job as a Navajo Police Officer was to support the people so dear to you. You influenced me in this regard as you apparently did with your kids by supporting them with the profession you chose and ultimately paid your life with.

You have always been the reason I never used the phrase "I can't". Now that I've gotten to reach part of my goals, I know that you were always there by my side telling me "Son you can do it, Don't give up". I'm here now because you and another believed in me when I had my doubts. Thank you.
Always w/ love your son.

You will always be by my side and never forgotten. You are the reason I chose this line of perfession and now I'm living my dream to be like you. One step closer to becoming an officer just like you. I know once I start down this road you will guide me through the hard times I've yet to see. Guide me w/ your soul and I will never lose sight of my goals. Lots of love your son.
