Reflections for Police Officer Melvin Lisojo

God Speed, Brother.

P.O.K. Murphy
Union PD, NJ

I would like to express my deepest sympathies to the entire Lisojo family. You have suffered a senseless loss of a loved one who dedicated his life to helping others. God will not overlook that and Mel will always be looking down on us to protect us always.
Mel. I wish I could have done more. You are gone but will NEVER be forgotten.

P.O. T. Fanning
Newark NJ Police Dept.

My fallen brother has brought me here, but I could not leave until I had thanked everyone who made the same sacrifice. We will continue to fight the fight. Your family must know that you will always be honored and remembered.

Officer T. Walters
VBPD

To my fellow brother in blue, you will be missed on the streets and in our hearts.

Patrolman
Memphis Police Department

My fiance, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Melvin be the be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Officer Lisojo's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through this tough time, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you.

Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that Melvin is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain Melvin was well respected and well loved. Thank you for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please take care of my fiance Dennis.

Peace, Love, Luck, and Happiness!

Jocelyne Brar (Drakesville, IA)
Dennis McElderry's fiancee - EOW (01/03/03)

MAY GOD BLESS. OUR PRAYERS FOR FAMILY, FRIENDS AND COWORKERS. REST IN PEACE MY BROTHER.

TO NEWARK'S FINEST POLICE OFFICER MELVIN LISOJO, MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH POLICE OFFICER MELVIN LISOJO'S WIFE, CHILDREN, AND FAMILY. I LOVE YOU MELVIN "YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN R.I.P" FROM YOUR FAMILY IN BLUE. THE SAFE CITY TASK FORCE, "THE TRAIN".

POLICE OFFICER ELVIN AROCHO
NEWARK POLICE DEPARTMENT N.J.

One couldn't help but like Melvin. His smile was infectious, his sense of humor, contagious. You always knew when he had come into the office. What a sad, sad, day to receive news of his passing. The officers I worked with in Newark became friends, and family. So I wrote this this morning, for Melvin:

You wore your Heart on your sleeve.
A perfect reflection of all that was good, and bright.
Compassion for those in need,
Infinite caring for those you love.
A brilliant smile to light up the room.
Eyes sparkled, mirroring a life well-lived, full of love and happiness.
Father, brother, son,
ever-giving, ever watchful.
Now, in remembering you,
I see your essence reflected in the brightest flower,
the ruby and violet hues of a hummingbird's wings,
the break of dawn,
the waves rolling onto the beach as the sun sets over the Pacific.
I smile, even as the tears fall.
Your memory shall forever be honored in our house.
You touched our lives,
if only for a moment.
Thank you so much.
You will be missed.

Lisa Adams, Former Muni Prosecutor
City of Newark

IF I KNEW

If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.

There will always be another day
to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,

That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear

Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.
