Reflections for Police Officer Melvin Lisojo

I would like to take time to give my condolences to the whole
Lisojo Family... Brother Melvin was such a gentleman such a
good Police Officer it was a pleasure to serve with him on the
same team. My brother may peace be with you and your family at this time. It was a pleasure to be at the same Roll Call as you. R.I.P my fallen brother.

P/O J.Guerrero

Thank you brother in blue for protecting us. You made the ultimate sacrifice. You wore your badge with honor and will never be forgotten. May God comfort his family, friends and fellow officers. Rest in Peace.

I check this page almost everyday. Not because i'm cynical, but because it breaks my heart to see so many good people losing their lives either every few hours or daily. I pray to God when the number of officers killed in the left hand column of the screen does not increase for at least one day!
I pray for all of those injured or killed in the line of duty. I also pray that God may comfort their families and those that they work with on a daily basis.
God bless you Officer Lisojo, and now go rest with the other Warriors in Heaven.

Master Deputy
Orange County Sheriff's Office

Simply - to the family and many friends of Melvin, I pray that your pain will fade, but know this, his memory will not. I ask only that Melvin keep his eye on his family and friends now. I offer the following that Melvin attended his last Roll Call - and he answered "Present".

The Final Inspection

The policeman stood and faced his God, which must always come to pass.

He hoped his shoes were shining just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman. How shall I deal with you?

Have you always turned the other cheek?

To my church have you been true?

The policeman squared his shoulders and said.

"No, I guess I ain't because those of us who carry a badge

can't always be a Saint."

I've had to work most Sundays

and at times my talk is rough,

and sometimes I've been violent,

because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny that wasn't mine to keep...

Though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills got to steep.

And I never passed a cry for help

though at times I shook with fear,

and sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place among the people here.

They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand,

I never expected or had too much, ... but if you don't ... I'll understand"

There was a silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod.

As the policeman waited quietly for the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman.

You've borne you burdens well.

Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets.

You've done your time in Hell"

I remember Melvin being a happy, caring person who loved to do his job.

We both had family on the job and could relate to talking about the job at family functions.

I send my deepest regards to his family and friends.

May God watch over him..

Thank you uncle for all the memories and the supreme sacrafice you layed down for us all. I am also greatly appreciative of your concern for me to fix my life up, so that I can patrol the streets of Newark by your side. You have set the standards for us to follow, to be the best we can be. Even if it costs us our lives, but most of all, to be a "HERO". I know how much you would've liked for me to become a cop, believe me I will. Though I can only hope that I can be just as a great cop as you were and hopefully I will make you proud. For if my End Of Watch arrives, I can only wish my ceremony can be just as beautiful as yours, and you would be waiting for me at heavens gates so that I can ask you, "How did I do". I will never forget you uncle, I love you and may you rest peacefully. Farewell until we meet again

As a fallen angel leaves us again
When will all this maddness end
Sadness, tears, the thought of being alone
How could this world be so cold
But every action comes with a reason
What the reason is I'll never know
But in the heaven's he will go
That shining star that brightens every night
Will show me that everythings alright
All good things must come to an end
You were the best uncle anyone could have

You helped countless people
As they cried and bled
You saw the worst nightmares
Aren't those in your head

You took on a mission
To protect and serve
Showed kindness to strangers
Some didn't deserve

You saw record hot days
As well as the lows
And alarms that go off
Each time the wind blows

You battled with evil
And fought off dispair
You entertained angels
Were you unaware?

You had many dinners
So rushed and so cold
To be there for others
Through horrors untold

You missed time with family
To answer the call
For the unknown person
You always risked all

You gave us your best years
For not enough pay
Your life was cut too short
We know that today

Your wife saves your shirts
'Til they lose your smell
And we all cling to memories
Will they fade as well?

We cherish each moment
No matter how small
Your smile and your laughter
Were gifts to us all

We take comfort knowing
You now see God's face
Yet beside us is still
This sad, empty space

For a few days at least
The media shows
The grief that engulfs us
The pain as it grows

The public pays homage
To a hero lost
For our safety and lives
We now see the cost

What so many didn't see
Past your uniform
Was someone so special
With your heart so warm

People comfort each other
As best as they can
How can we get over
The loss of this man?

Today we say goodbye
Hero, "brother in blue"
You are so loved and missed
We won't forget you!

Every time I saw Melvin he always had a smile on his face. It was always so comforting to see Melvin on hectic scenes. Just about three weeks ago I saw Melvin on the corner of Barclay and Spruce where I was responding to a motor vehicle crash involving officers that were also broadsided by another motorist. Just as I pulled up to the scene he came over to the ambulance. "There's three cops over there. Go help them first," he said to me pointing at a cruiser pushed up on the sidewalk. He will be greatly missed...
