Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Newton Sam Gorman

This reflection is for Newton Samuel Gorman buried in San Saba, Texas. He has no headstone and although it is a historical site the owners of the property will not allow anyone in, nor will they respond to requests to add a headstone.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the one hundred and thirty-first anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I live in Washington state and in 2000 we traveled to TX, in part to visit your grave just outside of Junction, TX. It is on the Gorman brothers farm, which is now owned by the Kothmann family in Junction, TX. There is no marker but we will not forget. We want it designated a historical cemetery and hope that one day it will be. Bless you Uncle Sam.

What a bizarre event.... such a shame. Deputy Gorman will not be forgotten by the Law Enforcement family. Thank you for your service.
