Sgt. Johnson will live on in the heart and minds of all of us who care, and many tears will be shed in his memory. GOD bless that "Thin Blue Line" and those who Protect and Serve

The Vermont State Police were the basis for a funny movie. What is not funny is how an agency can bring a smile to faces across america and later bring them to absolute tears. God Bless.
My thoughts and prayers are with Sgt. Johnson's family, Friends and co-workers. I know how it feels to loose a father on fathers day and I also know how it feels to loose a co-worker in uniform. It goes to show you that we all have to deal with every day danger no matter what uniform you wear (LEO or DOC) we all have to protect and serve.

All of you are in our thoughts, and it is a shame knowing Vermont has lost one of its finest, but I am proud to have known you.

My fiance, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. Dennis died in similar circumstances to Sergeant Johnson - while deploying stop strips during a vehicle pursuit. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Michael be the be the last to die this way.
Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Sergeant Johnson's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through this tough time, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you.
Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that Michael is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain Michael was well respected and well loved. Thank you for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please take care of my fiance Dennis.
Peace, Love, Luck, and Happiness!

My heart goes out to the family of Sgt. Michael Johnson. Your husband and father was killed protecting others, and doing what we Troopers believe is the greatest service to mankind. I have a special kinship to Sgt. Johnson and the other Green Mountain Troopers, for I, too, used to patrol I-91 for the State as a Trooper in Troop D, Rockingham. I have been with the Arizona Highway Patrol for the past 30 years. I will return to Vermont and stop in the crossover and say a prayer for Sgt. Johnson. Please give my condolences to his wife and children. The hurt will never go away. I hope the punishment for the perpetrator will never go away.

Sergeant Johnson was a hero, and every citizen should be thankful that troopers like him patrol our nation's highways to keep deadly drivers off our roads. While other fathers enjoyed this Father's Day with their families, Sgt. Johnson lost his so that others would not be killed. I really hope that his killer is put away for the rest of his life, so he can't kill again. God bless Sergeant Johnson's wife, children, and fellow troopers.
