Darla,
Our job is to protect the public, and you made the ultimate sacrifice doing just that. For that, you are my hero. You were the kindest, sweetest person. You were always willing to learn anything you could to make you a better Officer, and doing that made you the BEST Officer. Your courage and dedication to the job are qualities I hope I can instill in my children. Every day I put on the uniform, you will be in my heart. Every night I walk out the gate to go home, I'll know you watched over me and our fellow Officers.
Thank You, Officer Lathrem, You will be Missed...
P.S. When we meet again, sister, I'll do lock checks for you!

Darla,
Thank you for being such a joy to work with. With your warm
smile and quiet ways, you were a credit to the profession. I struggle with
the thought " was there something that I could have done that night
when we talked that could have prevented this?" I think that each of us
there that night will ask the same question. You are loved by us all and
will be truly missed. When we meet again, I'll gladly be your dive partner
on the scuba charter you wanted to go on. Till then.....Rest in Peace!

My condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of Darla Lathrem. It is obvious from the many reflections sent, that the "Fruits of the Spirit" were evident in Officer Lathrem's life.
Grief is different for a follower of Christ. Even in the depths of sorrow, hope breathes. Hope that you will see your loved one again in heaven. Hope in God's capacity to infuse suffering with purpose. And hope that because of his healing power, your sorrow will not go on forever.
His peace be with you all, at this time of great need and in the days to come.

She will always be remembered as one of the BEST officers to have served, with the wisdom and guidance, of her heavenly Father. As she is an example for others to follow. May she continue to shine from above.
Darla, you are forever in our hearts.

Officer Lathrem was such a blessing to work with. She could make you laugh over anything and every thing. She allways put her very best into everything. Matthew 5 verse 8 says, Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God. I know she is safe now in the arms of the Lord. I just wish we could of done more to keep her safe at work. Proverbs 3 verse 5 and 6 says to trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths. I know God had a path and a plan to help us threw this time of grief. She will be missed in body but will be forever present in spirit. We will never forget Officer Lathrem. God give us the strength to continue our jobs , for I know she would want us to go foward and not to want us to dwell in the past. I pray Gods blessings on all off her familyand friends. Heal her loved ones hearts I pray. Till we meat again.

It is with heartfelt sorrow and grief, that I visit this page to pay tribute to a fellow officer. We who are just at the beginning of our Corrections career, are truly sadden by the loss of our fallen comrade.I have served in the military and know the prices paid by many brave people in our folds who go above and beyond just going to a regular job everyday. Those who choose to serve our society to keep others safe and secure, are always heros. We your fellow officers are by your side.We feel the families pain as best we can comprehend, and hope that this tragedy passes in your hearts quickly, and the memory of this hero stays with us forever.

"Friends in Blue"
We have worked together for many years,
It's our voices ringing in your ears.
We try to make those long days brighter,
And hopefully, the load a little lighter.
We send you to the bar-room brawl.
And out in the rain to the nuisance call.
We worry about you day and night.
To make sure every call turns out all right.
We share your sorrows, we share your joys,
That's why we think of you as ... "Our boys."
Then why have we never said to you,
"I'm proud of you ... my friend in blue."

It saddens me deeply to know another officer has met the end of their watch. You rest now Officer Lathrem, we have the watch and am proud to take up where you left off. Your death has awakened me to the risk of "routine". Thank you for your service, may God be with your family and friends as you are in Glory with Him. Rest in peace, God is in control.

I knew you would be a good officer. I knew this because of your maturity, demeanor, and focus during your academy training. Everyone I've spoke to about you says the same. I can only imagine what your last moments were like.
Darla, if it's all right with you, I will use your memory as a reminder of why we train. If it is all right with you, I will speak about you from time to time in future classes. And when I see you in Heaven, you can let me know if it was all right with you.

Please know that as someone who has a loved one incarcerated, I am also heartbroken at seeing a senseless murder like this happen. We appreciate all the officers who do their jobs professionally and with respect for all. They deserve nothing less than the same. My heartfelt condolences to officer Lathrem's family.
